Hey guys, I need some help. My cousin just moved back to Houston after graduating college and would like a recommendation of good clubs, bars and lounges in Houston. He also wants to know where's a good place to stay while visiting Houston for someone that wants to be close to that scene. I haven't lived in H-town for a few years now so I figured I'd turn to you lot in Houston and get your opinions. Thanks.
It's hard to say since a lot of these bars go through the rotation so quickly. Cool for a few months, then taken over by a bunch of hoodlums. In the new section just south of downtown is Midtown. There's some decent spots there: Pub Fiction Deko Bond Red Door Little Woodrows
It depends on who you are. $30,000 millionaire > The Drake Pseudo-Country > Armadillo Palace Fratty > Lizzard's Lounge Beer Snob > Ginger Man Run-of-the-mill douche > Pub Fiction From Dallas > Pearl Bar Guido trash > Belvedere Prole as hell > Johnny's Sport's Bar There's more they are just slipping my mind.
Dude. We should hangout sometime. Only I could come up with a list like that. Or so I thought. Wanna be bros?
Actually I like my friends, I'm probably good for now. But, if one ever falls off or dies or something, I'd always consider a fellow Aggie first. Thanks for the offer. Good luck looking for a bro. Maybe I'll see you at Pub Fiction . . . But probably not.
If he just graduated from college, I would suggest Midtown or Rice Village. As far as living goes, somewhere inner-loop for sure. I would suggest an apartment in the midtown area or a larger complex somewhere east of 610, south of I-10, north of Holcombe, west of Montrose
I didn't want to send you to a bar I like to go to if you are going to wear a graphic tee. I don't think you would have very much fun. I'm just looking out for you.
Also, if you like scenesters/hipsters, there's a row of bars on Westheimer between Montrose and Dunlavy that may be to your liking. Catbirds is good for cheap drinks, Etro is more trendy (but not as bad as midtown places), and Boondocks is good for dancing and doing lines in the bathroom
I dated a hipster girl last year and she took me to both of those bars. Etro wasn't bad. That Boondocks place was weird. I felt a negative hate in the air. I didn't like it. And I saw people doing lines in the bathroom so there ya go. I don't date hipsters anymore.
I've heard and read some horrible things about Drake regarding not getting in based on your race. Same about Pub Fiction on the weekends when it's busy. Maybe they just weren't cool enough, I dunno. I just graduated from college and need to find a place where I can maybe dress up nicely once in a while and chill/lounge around without feeling like I'm in a sardine can or a rave. Regarding beer snobby places, I enjoy Flying Saucer. Great selection of beers, though noisy at times.
Boy could I tell you some stories. You're absolutely dead-on. But there are more bars like that in Houston, unfortunately.
Blue Label is a new place off Washington. My friend told me about another new place called Union Bar & Lounge....never been there tho Pandora, Drake, Saez & Zukes are places I have been to recently. They r decent
