I have a job interview tomorrow morning at Sears in West Oaks mall, and I was wondering if I should ask for some advice and tips for interviews. I've heard the basics: shake the employers hand firmly; wait until he/she sits down, then you sit down.

Also, does anyone know what Sears starts out paying? (for an 18 year old) I'm going to ask for atleast $6.50 an hour. Anything less then that and I woulnd't be able to live off of it. Even $6.50 is pushing it.... Thanks guys.

I find that if I can manage to convince myself that I wouldn't want the job...like I think I would do fine without it, it relaxes me greatly. My only problem in job interviews is feeling nervous.

Htown find out all you can about the company. Go online and find out their history, financial situation, how many stores there are, what's the company structure. Things like that.

Information is power. You'll go in more confident and it shows that you are interested in more than just "a job".

Also, don't offer salary information until they do.

Try to give the impression that you want to spend the REST OF YOUR LIFE working at Sears.

After the interview when the guy asks if you have any questions, resist the temptation to sigh and be relieved the interveiw is over. Have some questions to ask. Ask as many questions as you can about advancement opportunity. Where can I be in 2 years? Do you promote from within? Anything to make it seem like you are a future manager, not just another teen looking for a summer job.

Go on their website the night before and like the other post said, get some info about the company. Then prepare your questions.

    Now go get 'em!

I don't even know. I put down on the applications "Sales and Merchandise"

So I guess any of the entry level positions.

    That is excellent advice.

Also, strangely enough, I find that I am less nervous when I'm sick. I had a slight head cold when I did my military interview and I wasn't nervous at all, which worked to my advantage. Meanwhile, most of the other candidates were shaking and sweating bullets.

So, just inject yourself with SARS the night before and you'll do fine! ;)

    Good luck though!!!

Hmm...eye contact. Don't curse. Smile. Speak clearly...Get good breath...Dress nicely...

    Good luck!

When I first moved to NYC, I went on a bunch of interviews. I acted all cordial and interested in the company, asked a bunch of questions, and brown-nosed the hell out of the employer interviewing me.

Well, I ended up with nothing and became quite bitter. So, when I interviewed with Topps, I just relaxed, acted totally like myself, and shot straight from the hip (i.e. brutally honest). Amazingly, I got the job (essentially RIGHT away, too). Reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where George does everything opposite of what he normally does...

My friend worked at Sears, and was paid by commission, rather than a flat hourly rate.

acting like yourself is the only way to go. Your self confidence shines through and is attractive in an employee. Come in knowing you have the job and remember that you are also interviewing them. You must ask yourself if you want the job they are offering.
