Report: Gonzales knew of FBI violations

WASHINGTON - Attorney General Alberto Gonzales received reports detailing legal or procedural violations by FBI agents in the months before he told senators that no such abuses had occurred, The Washington post reported Tuesday.

In April 2005, while seeking renewal of the broad powers granted law enforcement under the USA Patriot Act, Gonzales said, "There has not been one verified case of civil liberties abuse" from the law enacted after the 9/11 terror attacks.

According to the Post, Gonzales had received a least half a dozen reports describing such violations in the three months before he made that statement. The newspaper obtained the internal FBI documents under the Freedom of Information Act.

Oh for the good ole' days when lying to congress was a felony.

    How quaint --

Won't matter. Pansy-ass congress is letting the Bush admin and it's associated thugs run amok.

The whole thing is a gigantic sham.

    Is verified legal-ese for "convicted?"

A report is a report; it's not a conviction-- only an accusation.

I think this is veritable truth that you make things up in your head or that you have no idea how the legal process works.

Please re-read the article and try again.

So alleged violations were "described" and "Justice officials said they did not know whether Gonzales had read the reports."

    And this constitutes lying?

Okay now, everybody, let's sing that old refrain: "Innocent until proven Guilty."

If it's good enough for the turds at Guantanamo or the pieces of human waste that incorporate these radical and murderous cells around the world, why isn't it good enough for the Attorney General of the US?

Time will tell, but you're kidding yourself if you don't see this first and foremost as political opportunism.

I guess I'm just one of those guys that doesn't give a damn if some scumbag gets what he deserves even if some detail gets stepped on and conversely I recoil when some dirtbag goes free due to technicalities.

I don't see the end of the Republic around every corner like some here do...

I find it interesting that you would compare the Attorney General of the US to the detainees at Guantanamo.

I compare his treatment by some here not him. Says more about those doing the "treating" than me. Nice try though... :D

giddy, don't some of those alleged "turds" at Gitmo deserve a fair trial? What if you were picked up and put in a "cell" there, left for years, and not had a trial. How would you feel then?

Oh, never mind. It's not worth rehashing yet again.

Such is the moral construction of the world, that no national crime passes unpunished in the long run... Were your present oppressors to reflect on the same truth, they would spare to their own countries the penalties on their present wrongs which will be inflicted on them in future times. The seeds of hatred and revenge which they [sow] with a large hand will not fail to produce their fruits in time. Like their brother robbers on the highway, they suppose the escape of the moment a final escape and deem infamy and future risk countervailed by present gain.

That's not what I said. I said that I'm doing the comparing of his treatment by people here to their defensive stance on those at Gitmo. To wit, mcmark charges him with a felony...
