We are always complaining that Yao doesnt get the calls or the calls are always going against him. I wonder if this has to do with the fact that Yao is 7'6'' and 300 pounds? kind of the whole David and Goliath mentality. Refs may feel Yao has too much of an advantage with his size and try to even things up a bit? You guys always complain about Shaq getting all the calls but if the refs called it straight every player guarding Shaq would foul out in minutes.. Of course Shaq would foul out quickly too due to his offensive charging? anyways I feel bad for Yao when he tries to be aggresive he gets called for alot of offensive charges. I think some of this stems from him being large and some of this because he doesnt complain/communicate (whatever you want to call It) what do you guys think? fyi.. I think Yao and Tmac played great yesterday... Yao had a solid game 5/7 11 rebs 3blks (didnt shoot enough but very efficient) Tmac had 11 rebs / 5 assists/ 4 stl / 2 blks (defensively) J
Let's just sit back a little and see. This is still the pre-season after all, and the fact is, the Rockets as a team yesterday got shafted at the free throw line....now if this happened during the regular season, I sure all hell would be rasied especially by JVG.
Well we all know this wasnt a typical night for tmac. Going 1-5 from the free throw line is obviously not right. He'll be back tonight.
other than not being able to hit the side of the barn yeah Tmac played okay, but nobody on the team could...
It has everything to do with it. It wouldnt be so bad if they allowed him to fight fire with fire. But they won't allow him. If he pushes back ,If he uses his strength to his advantage, they blow their whistle, they are sensitive to the little guy being overmatched by the giant and they have sympathy for the flopper. This is the same ole' story from last year, its a psychological issue that needs to be dealt with by a league psychologist.
That mentality certainly existed when Wilt played... officials and opposing players openly admitted to it. Obviously things have changed since then. It's all about star treatment now. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if that thought was in the back of some officials' minds.
I think the Chinese government needs to bribe the refs. The refs are putting the squeeze on Yao in order to get some dollars out of his country's government. That may be how things work nowadays. I would like to see one entire season of Yao not being called for an offensive foul. The price tag may be more than a million, but I think it's worth it. Someone should tell Yao to pull out his emergency red phone and call up the Chinese government to wire some money into the bank account of the refs.
