Wow. They're really a good team and look to have a very bright future if we manage to keep the players and let them grow together. The only missing piece though seemed to be a center as Dampier was not very good (only 1 reb in 25 mins against Bucks). Imagine how good they would be if they got Yao Ming instead of Mike Dunleavy Jr in last year's draft! A nice anaylsis of them:
Look at last night's score - Troy Murphy - 22 rebounds! WOW! Too bad it looks like they are losing Arenas. He and Murphy are a good combo, and they make Jamison work.
The most GS can offer Arenas is $4.5 mil a year. Denver is poised to offer around $7-8 mil a year for him.
Arenas is rapidly approaching "very overrated" status. He's a good player, but he's getting hyped up too much. He is not good enough for a deal like he's rumored to be getting from Denver. GS plays a very loose game that benefits Arenas (they play at the fastest tempo in the league, by far), a tighter style (one that includes defense...) will expose him a bit. He's worth a decent deal, the MLE seems about right. Denver's making a mistake if they start him out at 6-7-8 million.
Arenas may go for more money. They have a very talented team. VERY. In a long time... but no championship anytime soon. IF THEY GOT YAO MING.........WHOA. Every game would be sold out. Whooo...they would be awesome. BUT GOOD THING THEY DIDN'T GET HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have a very good and intelligent and just a good coach. He has done a marvelous job.
. Arenas still has some growing to do. The Warriors had a lead very late when (on a delayed break) Arenas had a shot blocked by Wallace. Because of the Wallace block, Gilbert then tried to force the game. Next time down the floor, he was tied up and lost his cool and was given a Tech Foul. On GS's last possesion he went 1on1 and missed the shot. Detroit inbounded with 5.9 seconds and Billups hit a 3 over Chris Mills for a 107-105 Piston win.
They have great role players. Troy Murphy's a role player so is Boykins. What they really lack is a star center.
Uh, that is the least of their problems. I say GS lacks role players in the sense that they have too many guys who rely on having the ball in their hands. They lack outside shooters and any defenders.
Wouldn't it be great if Eddie Griffin's numbers were like those of Troy Murphy? You have to hand it to Murphy. The guy spent all summer improving his game, getting stronger in the weight room and was rewarded with the starting PF spot. And he has DELIVERED! The guy averages a double/double! I would love to see Griffin develop like that. Chris
I would say the Warriors biggest problem is they don't have a superstar the caliber of Francis, Marion or Marbury nor one with the potential of Yao. Sorry Jamison is a very good player, but just isn't on these all-stars level in terms of dominating games. The Warriors have pretty good all-around talent, just don't have the one guy to lead them to greater places. Losing Arenas (he will follow the money from the quotes I have heard from him) will be a major step backwards too.
You know, the players always chase the highest dollar. ALWAYS. I'm eating lunch and reading the Chicago Tribune sports section, about how Toni Davis took more money to stay in Toronto rather than accept Chicago's offer (which was substantial). Hindsight being 20/20, Davis is exactly what the Bulls could have used; and even if the Bulls were no better than now, with Davis anchoring the front line, he would have been happier near family in Chicago. Arenas can go to Denver or San Antonio for bigger, better money. It's a shame for Golden State when (if?) he does, because they were finally getting it together. Maybe he'll stay for a wink-wink two year deal, like Rashard in Seattle.
what's more amazing than Golden States record, is there is a GS thread without Swopa in it ..............very Stwange!!!
I couldn't agree more. I'd be thrilled to have him for $6 mil a year, especially considering SA wants Kidd, Utah wants Miller, and GS can only go up to $4.5 mil. We are bidding against ourselves!! Unfortunately, a majority of the Nugs fans are gung ho on Gilbert and are talking about giving him max money.
Where are these S.A. wants Kidd rumors coming from? Obviously, they will look into it, given they are in the financially capable positon. But as old as Robinson plays sometimes, the Spurs will have to seriously address a question of who their starting center will be next year. Malik Rose is a great guy and a hard worker, but I think the Spurs lose a lot with a Rose-Duncan frontcourt, even if Kidd is in the backcourt. Golden State is much better than expected, but will they progress next year, or regress, as the Rockets did last year (even without the injuries)? That will be the test.
They've lost 3 in a row. And will face Pheonix tomorrow!!! I don't want either team to win!!! But it would be better for us if the Warriors won. I WISH EDDIE GRIFFIN was like Troy Murphy. Eddie has done good the last two games.....but I hope he continues it. He can't even be like Troy Murphy because he can't shoot. It would be great if he practices the entire summer...but what is the probability of that happening.
The Kidd to SA rumors are rampant all over the media...NBATV, Bucks (vs SA) announcers, etc. The source IMO is Kidd's known friendship with Duncan coupled with the LA's Finals sweep of the Nets combined with the Nets struggles lately. Next season is next season...for now, the Wariors are playing well and spreading the ball around. They beat the Suns last night and had 4 startes in double figures plus 2 more off the bench. http://www.nba.com/games/20030311/PHOGSW/boxscore.html Perhaps the Suns don't play very good transition D - 21 GS FB points on only 12 PHX TO's. IMO, the Rox need to rebound and uptempo PHX.
