I will be hobknobbing but not with the MS execs....something completely different......and secret. DD
Isnt that where the winner of Hells Kitchen got their resturant last season. I would check that out. Update: with a little research I was able to find this for you: Araxi Restaurant + Bar in Whistler, B.C http://www.vancouversun.com/life/Gordon+Ramsay+opens+Hell+Kitchen+Whistler/1870679/story.html Other than skiing????? Snowboarding. Snowmobile. Making yellow snow. Snow Angel. Sled.
Enjoy the car trip from the airport through Vancouver downtown to the highway that goes to Whistler. That has always blown my mind how it's setup like that. How the heck are they going to deal with Olympic traffic.
With the Olympics being there a few days after you leave you're probably going to be fighting the surge of tourists no matter what you do. I'd think parts of Whistler are going to sectioned off for Olympic prep.
Vancouver/Blackcomb is a seriously nice place to ski. Unfortunately, it was the first place I ever went, so I was quite the novice when I got to see it. First Amsterdam, then Vancouver? What are you on, a secret Cheech and Chong groupie tour? Traveling reality show on prostitution destinations?
Will do when I get there, but figured with a diverse group here on Clutchfans people might have a unique experience from there, etc. DD
There's a really cool little coffee shop/cafe on the mountain road from Vancouver to Whistler (it's before Squamish). Make sure you have good tires on your car on the drive from Vancouver to Whistler. And if you have time for a meal while in Vancouver, you have to go to Vij's for dinner (best Indian restaurant I've ever been to in the Western hemisphere). They don't take reservations, and open at 5:30pm. The first time I went we showed up at 5:00pm, waited in line, and were seated at 5:30pm. I was there again two weeks ago, showed up at 7:00pm, and we were seated at around 9:00pm...definitely worth the wait. The NY Times called Vij's "easily one of the finest Indian restaurants in the world."
Like everyone else said, basically skiing. There are a few shops and restaurants around. The village is a very nice place to stroll through. Just hang out and drink and people watch if you're not skiing I guess. Ditto Vij's. Definitely be there at or before opening. Just remembered, they have other outdoors-y stuff like zip lining and tubing.
There's also a Japanese-style hotdog vendor on Burrard St near Robson downtown. Pretty hyped, but it was really good. Also, be careful where you park in Vancouver. Break-ins in that city seem to be FAR more common than any large American city I've been to. My rental was just broken into a couple of weeks ago in a parking garage downtown.
Well congrats DD. Make a hefty contribution to the TIPJAR out of those 18 mealeons instead of going to Whistler, sir.
