Ok, dudes, here's the deal. I'm single now and, at 36, most of the guys I know are married and don't go out. So, if anyone goes out to see live music and feels like hanging out, let me know. Nothing more pathetic than some dude in a bar by himself even if I am there to see some music and probably know most of the guys in the band. Tonight, I'm going most likely to see Guy Forsyth and Los Super Vatos at Continental Club. What about you gwayneco??? You goin?
This might seem weird, since we don't get along on here , but, I'm going out with a friend of mine (who doesn't drink either) to Liquor Lounge in Midtown. Not my cup of tea, normally, but I always try to help friends out. You're more than welcome, if you feel.
Take it from me, there is nothing at all pathetic about that! Well, at least if you know the band, and they come over and say hi, it doesn't look quite so lame. I was actually going to that show, but an issue with a friend derailed those plans.
nothing wrong with that. i've gone to stack's place several times last season to watch games by myself (half of the time at live and the other half at the place on shepard... Kennally's... or kuh-neal-leez... i think). sure i may have looked like a loser sitting at the end of the bar, but people enjoyed sparking conversation with me (maybe they felt sorry for me or something.) i just enjoy having a beer and watching a game, but dislike having to listen to the random guy that walks up and tries to test my basketball knowledge with general questions that a unicorn would know... making me miss half of the game. i went to the rudyard's alone that time when your band was playing. nothing wrong with drinking alone... is there? come to think of it, i went to go see "redeye" last weekend, ran into some friends on the way out, and they asked why i go to the movies alone. as kayne said, "i can be by myself and enjoy the company"... or something like that.
Jeff, I have my boys this weekend but let me know the agenda for next weekend. I too have recently split with my wife. I love seeing live music. my x and I caught one of your shows last summer.
Omega, I'm with you man. There are times when I just want to drink a beer, smoke some cigarettes, watch the game and/or play some trivia without saying a word to anyone else. I went to a few shows by myself in Dallas, so I could see me doing that too.
I would go to these things, except: 1) I'm not in Houston. 2) I'm a girl, so it might look weird. (unless there was a big group going) (No comments please.) 3) Even if a big group was going, unfortunately I'm not in Houston..
I'm down to go... I haven't really had a chance to check out Houston's live music yet and I'm looking to meet people that can get me into performing again.
Aw, man. You made friends with them. See, friendship is the booze they feed you. They want you to get drunk on feeling like you belong. Well, it was fun. They make you feel cool. And hey. I met you. You are not cool. I know. Even when I thought I was, I knew I wasn't. That's because we're uncool. And while women will always be a problem for us, most of the great art in the world is about that very same problem. Good-looking people don't have any spine. Their art never lasts. They get the girls, but we're smarter. I can really see that now. Yeah, great art is about conflict and pain and guilt and longing and love disguised as sex, and sex disguised as love... and let's face it, you got a big head start.I'm glad you were home. I'm always home. I'm uncool. Me too! The only true currency in this bankrupt world if what we share with someone else when we're uncool. I feel better. My advice to you. I know you think those guys are your friends. You wanna be a true friend to them? Be honest, and unmerciful.
Jeff, you gotta give earlier warning.I might have joined you tonight if I had known before I left work at 6:30PM.
Ok, I went and saw Guy Forsyth and Los Super Vatos. I know all the guys in Los Super Vatos, so no biggie. Took a lot of pictures. There are a few shows on my list for tonight, but I don't know when I'll get back to this side of town. Here's a few possibilities... Ian Moore w/ Permanent Daylight Continental Club Steve Hale With Joe LoCascio, Sebastian Whittaker and David Craig Cezanne This should be an unreal jazz show - that's like the freakin' Houston all-star jazz band. The Sonnier Brothers Dan Electro's Guitar Bar Southern Backtones, Black Tie Dynasty Rudyard's Pub & Grill Tony Vega Band The Big Easy Social and Pleasure Club
I'm down w/ doing something cool tonight. I'll check this thread later to see if anybody is still doing somethin.
Those sound pretty good, but I'll probably go to Hickory Hollow to hear Kimberly M'Carver at about 7:15, and then go next door to Cosmos to hear Eric Tessmer (whom I am clueless about). Tomorrow is the big day for me with Honk the Honky Tonk (bunch a country artists) at Blanco's starting about noon. Finally, on Tuesday Randy Rogers will be at the Mucky Duck. My Live365.com radio station is back from the dead and playing some cuts by Tony Vega, Southern Backtones, and a f ew other artists playing this weekend.--> http://www.live365.com/stations/gwayne04
