does this mean there will be a gap in posting? I'm just saying.... Hell maybe clutch will even send you a thank you letter
Jennings didn't have it tonight. In 3.1 innings, he walked 5 batters and gave up 4 runs. Still he couldn't be any worse than Albers.
There are few things less meaningful than a vet's rehab-start stat line. How'd his arm feel? How's his arm feel tomorrow? How's his arm feel in his bullpen session in a couple of days? That's all that matters.
Barring any physical setbacks, I'd be willing to bet that we'll be seeing Mr. Jennings back in an Astros uni in about 4 or 5 days.
Report from RR: maybe got squeezed a bit by the ump; "wasn't hitting spots like I should"; "not as sharp as in CC"; "felt fine".
The rotation's set up where he can slide into Albers's spot next time through, Tues the 29th vs. Cincy on 6 days rest; or there's an off day on the 28th, so they can skip Albers the 29th, pitch everybody else on normal rest, & give JJ another rehab start if they choose to.
Just got back from the game. I will post some pics in the morning. He was sharp early, but really lost the plot in the 2nd inning. I don't think he was squeezed much, he was missing pretty regularly, but at least he was missing down in the zone. The one thing I was concerned about was his fastball, he had one clocked at 87, the rest were 84-85...with two at 86...... His pitches were between 78 -84 almost all night. I was hoping for a bit more out of him, but I don't know what he was being asked to do....maybe they were having him hold off a bit, who knows. Overall though, my honest opinion is he may need another start or two in the minors..... Also Burke got a couple of hits and stole a base, he was playing 2nd base but he didn't look all that comfortable at the plate..... DD
Before he went on the DL, he fastball was topping out at 86. If I am correct, he is usually in the 91-92 range when on his game.
"I wasn't missing by much," Jennings said. And there are ample quotes from him in the offseason about how he doesn't throw as hard as he used to, by choice, going back to last season. More fine with his pitches, not trying to blow guys away, just pitching to contact. "Work smarter, not harder." Whether he's b.s'ing or not, nobody knows.
He wasn't missing by much and he was missing down, which is better than up... But he did not have a good fastball, and if his name is not Greg Maddox can he get by with an 86 mph fastball? I hope so. I saw in the paper today that he is going back to the big club.....well, they need him. DD
So his ERA is invalid because of a small sample size, but somehow pointing out that he has zero wins is a valid criticism, even though it's in the exact same sample size? This is where you lose people... when you do stuff like this, you come off looking like you're complaining for the sake of complaining rather than being objective.
