I will be there from the 17th through the 20th of August for the computer games show. But I am going in a few days early to go around the city etc, anyone have any suggestions as to things to do or see there? Thanks, DD
Yes, and everyone smells good (except that "AroundTheWorld" guy! ). The beer's not bad, either. (I know it's the wrong city, but can't pass up the chance to post this image again!)
actually the city is dirty as hell and it smells like greasy fast food at every corner it reminds me of the lower east side of manhattan more than a german city........crowded pothole ridden streets, rude locals with attitude, and lots of filth!
if u have time i can recommend an hour train ride to the west......the town of aachen has a nice walking-friendly and picturesque city centre
I highly recommend you travel a few miles (90-100) and check out Celle. I was born near Hannover and lived in Celle untill I was 4. Hannover and Braunschweig are very close by and the sights are epic. I have never been to Köln, but again.....if you have time.......Celle.
Tons of WWII stuff to see. Op Millennium basically leveled the place, as that picture shows. I've never been but I'm living in Switzerland now, I intend to find time to get there. Going to Frankfurt tomorrow. Landlord gave good tips too. Don't know how much spare time you would have, but if I were you I'd soak up the history as much as possible. Post pictures when you return!
Am now thinking of a day in and around Frankfurt, any castles etc to see? Maybe drive to Austria and see some stuff overnight then back to Cologne on Sunday? DD
I've heard Frankfurt is incredibly boring (it's essentially a business city, like Houston). My suggestion -- take the short flight, or train ride, to Berlin -- probably my favorite city in Europe.
Our plans are changing based upon what there is to do, we are now leaning towards Amsterdam for Friday and Saturday nights then drive down to Cologne on Sunday. DD
lol DD you've flipflopped from koln to frankfurt to austria to amsterdam in just 24hrs already! maybe DoD was right!
