I think we need to stay the course with the core we have. I think Yao is forever going to be a guy who can be neutralized by trick defenses but he brings too much to the table to move. McGrady is now a guy I'm really down on but I don't see this team getting anything near equal value. To be honest, I don't think these guys as a duo or as individuals have what it takes to go all the way. Having said that, I think they can both be part of a Championship team but this team desperately needs a strong, veteran who still has plenty of game left. We need a guy who is going to come in and take the leadership role (or at least share it with Yao). He also needs to be able to take and make big shots. A Billups type of player is what I have in mind. I know that is a tall order but I think it is more realistic than blowing this thing up and having any shot at getting good talent at multiple positions in return.
New point guard or the season is probably lost. If the Rockets fail to make the playoffs - tear it down.
Make a trade for an unprotected 1st pick thats projected anywhere between 1 and 18, as insurance. Then make a few tweaks for 3pt shooters and rebounders.
