Ok the title got you in this thread. I used to hate the spurs. HATE THEM. When I went to college, I got around people from San Antonio and Dallas. I realized the San Antonio people were more like me and the Dallasites were all arrogant queers. Anyways, I feel the Mavericks radiate everything about Dallas. Just a bunch of whiny b!tches in the city and on the team. San Antonio fans hate Dallas just as much as we do. So in college, my Houston friends made an alliance with Spurs fans to not talk **** to each other and just rag on the Mavs. I found myself actually cheering for the Spurs when they played against Dallas. The next year we would actually have San Antonio fans over to watch Rockets games and vice versa, even when they weren't playing Dallas. What brought us together most of all, was when Dallas went to the finals. Houston fans were cheering for the Spurs like they were the Rockets when the played Dallas in the semis. Anyways, I know the Spurs are a rival, and when the Rockets play them, I want to beat the crap out of them, but the Spurs are a classy group of players and San Antonio fans are not bad. The Spurs have become my second favorite team in the NBA and I hope they can beat the Hornets because NO is a bunch of thugs. So if it's not GO ROCKETS!, it's GO SPURS GO!! What are your thoughts? (flame on)
Go to a spurs site and join their bandwagon. And don't come back. I'm calling Stephen Colbert so he can put you on notice.
I'm not on any bandwagon. Maybe you didn't read my post completely. The Spurs don't need a bandwagon, they have the most loyal fanbase in the NBA.
here's how i choose who to cheer for and against: all time championships. i want the rockets to be known as one of the all time most successful teams. this means that they can't fall too far behind in the championships list. i will cheer against anyone who is above the rockets for all time championships. that includes the celtics (16), lakers (9), bulls (6), spurs (4), and pistons (3). i will also continue to cheer against the jazz for obvious reasons. as well as the mavs, as long as they have dirk and josh howard. in conclusion, its in the rockets best interest for the hornets to win the championship this season.
No surprise to anyone, but of course I'm with you. Used to despise them, but I loved Tim Duncan in college and knew I'd support him wherever he went in the league. But, the irrational and illogical hatred and obsession fans tend to have with Bruce Bowen only pushes me further to their side in this series. (Yes, I know the flame will begin, and not really interested in a full argument on this as I've already gone through my position on Bowen numerous times on this board. Does nothing but go in circles.) Anyway, here's to hoping the Spurs can pull out a road win on Monday. I haven't had a good Spurs-Lakers series to get fired up about in a while.
I like your thinking, Smoothie. Besides, San Antonio has won enough. Even though I hate the Hornets when we play them and throughout the whole season as far as that goes, it'd be nice to see a young team DETHRONE the champions. Thing is, they may get pass San Antonio, and if LA wasn't in their way I believe they can beat Boston... but L.A. is a different monster.
Of course, I like them better than the mav and j*zz. But they've won 4 championships and that's plenty. I like Popovich, love his no nonsense style. But I hate the way they flop. It pisses me off that a team with 4 championships still feels the need to flop so much. And frankly, they are kind of boring to watch. I don't know what it is, but I just can't sit through an entire spurs game without flipping the channel. As much as I hate both teams, it would be kind of fun to see the Fakers and the Smelltics back in the Finals after all these years. Those are the teams I'm pulling for.
I'm a decades-long Spurs fan who has drifted away from them (in a fan sense) the last few years. Initially I wanted the Hornets to beat them but that is over. I hope the Spurs either blow them out or win a heartbreaker on Monday. If the Hornets win, it won't be a major disappointment.
This is probably the worst thread I have seen in a while. I agree with the above, you're not a Rockets Fan, if the Spurs are your 2nd favorite team. Go be a Spurs fan. The only reason your idiotic Spurs fan friends(which I have plenty too) are with you is because their team has had success in recent years and your team hasn't. The minute the Rockets have real success, they will hate us more than the Mavs, like they hated us in the nineties. Spurs fans as a whole are some of the least educated and now biased fans, because of their 4 championships with no repeats, in the NBA. Give it a rest, hate the Spurs as much as you hate the Jazz and Mavs. Clearly who we should be rooting for in the playoffs. 1.New Orleans (If they win big deal-we match up well with them and it's just one championship 2.Detroit Pistons(Eastern conference team-no rivalry with the Rockets) 3.Celtics/Lakers (Storied Franchises, their fans are far away and we don't have to deal with them on a regular basis.) 4.Spurs/Jazz (Root against these teams violently, they both flop and their fans are a nightmare to deal with. The Jazz because we've obviously had to play them two years in a row and the Spurs fans are way to close to Houston.) The Rockets and only the Rockets!!!!
LMAO! DD, can you start a new poll at spurstalk asking which team they hate more, Rockets or Mavericks? BTW, you do realize San Antonio is Cowboys territory, right? You can't really religiously follow a team and then hate their city.
i agree with most of your post but wouldn't put the pistons second. if they win again the rockets need 2 championships just to TIE for 5th all time. i would rank them like this: 1. cavs - who cares? 2. hornets - sort of a rivalry but who cares if they get one. 3. celtics - too far ahead for anyone to ever catch, plus let KG get one. after that, i'd be pissed if the lakers won (phil doesnt deserve to pass red for all time championships as a coach) i'd be pretty upset if the pistons won and stretched thier championship lead. or if the spurs won and did the same. and i'd slit my wrists if the jazz ever won...well maybe not, but id slit someone's wrists.
I run into way more Lakers fans than SA fans on a daily basis. I like it when the spurs win if we dont, everyone comes to the texas triangle and are less worried about the rockets than the spurs. I think it gives us a small advantage from time to time. Plus if they win, everyone is out to beat them, and if we are lucky to catch a back to back or 2 it can help. I hate New Orleans as a team, i really hope they get blown out and dissapear, unfortunately that wont happen as long as CP3 is healthy.
I completely forgot about the Cavs, I would also put them number one. Just say no to the Jazz ever winning the tittle or the Spurs repeating.
Yes, Bruce Bowen & Robert Horry are class acts of the NBA...I cannot take your post seriously after reading that part. And in all honesty, I know I have not been here very long, and I live in New Jersey so I never really got to be apart of the rivalry amongst Texas basketball teams personally, but in my few months here, I have seen fellow members pour their hearts out into rooting for the Dallas Mavericks & San Antonio Spurs...Two teams whose rivalries with the Rockets span further back than most other teams in the league. And worst of all, the lovefest for these two teams came at the time they were playing the New Orleans Hornets in the playoffs. I know many people on here dislike the Hornets ever since the CP3/Alston incident began, but this "heat" between the Rockets & Hornets began to escalate just this season. I just don't see a logical explanation for us Rocket fans to want to see other Texas teams win, when the Rockets aren't in the playoffs at the time (unless the Spurs & Mavs are playing each other). When I joined here, I fully expected a place where I could band together with my Rocket brethren & vent our displeasures towards teams the likes of the Mavericks & Spurs, but obviously for me, this hasn't been the case. Anyways, there's no chance in hell I'd be found cheering on the Spurs, Jazz, or Fakers, so for me, NO is still the lesser of the evils remaining in the West.
