Has anyone ever used it? How were the results? I have a 4 year old cairn terrier who had x-rays today and we found out he has minor hip dysplasia in his right hip and some minor arthritis in his back. The vet said glucosamine should help and help prevent future problems. Thanks for any help!
Have you changed his diet? My dog is about 10 years old. She started limping around. I changed her diet to a senior formula with glucosamine and it did the trick almost immediately. I've changed brands from time to time and they all seem to work.
my dog's been on it also since having been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. i guess it has worked...no further problems. but most docs seem to think that a surgery of some sort is inevitable down the road for hip dysplasia, as i'm sure you've heard.
I give my 12 year old dog a "superfood supplement" called The Missing Link Plus. It has glucosamine and other stuff for her skin/coat. It works great. Good luck.
Our dog's arthritis has improved dramtically with the glucosamine. She is much more active and rarely has an limping problems.
Glucosamine is pretty safe, unlike the more potent anti-imflammatories. Relatively speaking, there is no harm in trying. I'd suggest shopping around for it though. There are human prices (expensive) and dog prices for the stuff. Maybe try a 2 week amt first, then buy in bulk if it works. If your vet is like mine, if you find a good price on the internet, they'll match it. Don't buy from just any internet source, though. very important. you can get bad drugs. Ask your vet first.
another success story here. girlfriend's schnauzer-poodle mix is 13 years old and seemed to drag his back legs along when his arthritis was hurting him. glucosamine meds have him trotting around and jumping on the furniture again. best of luck to you.
