Did anyone get to hear Glen Rice's phone interview (all the way from San Fran) on FOX 26? Glen said so many good things about JVG. He said he does not want to take anything away from RudyT but that a team like the Rox need coach like JVG who will work you hard and get in your face if need be.

Glen also said that Rudy allowed his players to figure it out their way but that is not JVG's way - he will let you know about it and you better deliver. In order words, JVG is just what the good old doc ordered.

It felt good to hear that from Glen but interestingly JVG does not come accross as an in-your-face if-need-be kind of a guy. He is also a good Xs and Os guy. The Rox are better with this guy on our side.

Could this spell the end to dribble-mania?

In other words, Rudy doesn't coach them, he just runs them out there and hopes they figure out how to play on their own. And anyone's suprised when they don't?

Most coaches come off as "nice guys" on TV, but they're all tyrants in practice. I guarantee you, the first few practices will not be pretty for any of the Rocket players.

That cuts both ways, you could've said this :

In other words, Rudy trusts his players to know what they're doing, and doesn't micromanage the hell out of them and make the chafe with his omnipresence.

I think your perspective applies more to a veteran team, such as the championship teams, and mine applies more to the current, much less experienced, team.

    WTF!

Have you ever seen him on the sideline?

He nearly blows a fuse at least once a game, homey is always fired up.

Man, Yao Ming will be our next ball hog, black hole in the coming season. Especially in games when he has low FG%.

Pass Yao the damn ball and let him throw bricks?! scary...

    Throw it down!

    Spot on WinkFan.

By default, human beings tend to like people who treat them with kid gloves or let them get away with stuff. This is why players love Rudy. I love that side of Rudy but it indeed a dangerous double edge sword which not applied or used properly could come back to hunt. It has backfired on RudyT in the last few years and it has come back to bite him in spite of his desire to continue coaching.

There must be a balance - I agree. Good things don't come easy usually - you have to make tough bitter decisions in order to achieve desired goals. Rudy often unfortunately shied away from this phylosophy.

When I was young, I was angry with my parents for the strict way they raised me - they told me that there was time for everything. In hindsight and a grown man I came to love them even more and appreciate what those early decision helped me become the better person I am today. Interestingly they don't treat me the "hard-straight-and-narrow" way anymore because I have come of age.

This present Rockets team have not come of age yet but Rudy's approach failed to address that. And it costed everyone involved.

I love the man's intensity, I think that's what we were lacking.. and it started with Rudy. No offense to the big RT, but the man seemed to have lost a bit of his old spunk.

Well instead of Gregonomics will I do?

User:- I think you had me in mind when you made your post. It is most unfortunate that you would make such a post! If you knew anything about Yao Mings Character and his background you would realise that you posed a rather funny post! Its so funny because its so impossibly wrong and unlikely! :p Are you in need of a home,a location, interests etc? Are you from Houston, are you a Rockets Fan? Why is your birthday N/A?

Rice is saying nice things because he is on a big bubble right now - especially with Van Gundy. God just say no....

Rice does not need to kiss Van Gundy's behind to get any favor. He is a veteran. He has always spoken his mind and this one is not abnormal.
