Recently, I've been having eye problems with my contacts... and I know this is probably a "Lil Pun Thread" but just wondering how many people prefer contacts over glasses. And also, if anyone uses Day and Night contacts, how are they compared to the regular ones?
Talk to your optometrist. You might be better off with a different contact lens material. Is this a new type of contacts?
I have both but glasses are so much more convenient, I hate putting in my contacts sometimes. Ill wear contacts for dates or weddings but thats about it
No, I think it's pretty much the same one. My optometrist says that I just need to take some days off without my contacts... that's really not acceptable for me... my eyes get dry though a lot. I have Acuve w/ Astigmatism but they don't really help.
How can anyone prefer contacts over glasses??
I'll wear contacts when I go to public places a lot of the time, but I wear glasses all the time. Especially when you're sitting at home studying and stuff. Sometimes, I only wear contacts while playing a sport or at work. I don't usually wear them for longer than about 8-10 hours at a time. Plus, I have astigmatism so they're a bit more expensive, ughhh..
Hate wearing my contacts, particularly for extended periods of time. Now days I feel like a part of me is missing without my glasses. They are more comfortable, harder to lose, and easier to maintain.
Just out of curiosity, do you wear the two week disposables or the one month disposables? I was using the two week ones (although I do like acuvue) but they were really killing my eyes. I switched over to one month lenses by biofinity (I wear toric lenses as well) and they seem to be much better. My eyes dry out a lot too, but since i've been using these everything has been good.
You should always have a backup set of glasses in case of emergency/eye infection. If you don't like the pair you have then drop some dough and find a pair you feel comfortable in (some chicks dig glasses btw). As far as what your optometrist says, he could be right. Are you sleeping in them? Because of your astigmatism, your lens selection is slightly limited (depending on how bad your astigmatism is) than someone with just spherical correction. Just to let you know, some doctors get paid to sell one type of lens brand. You might want to seek a second opinion for contact lenses. There are many different types of fittings (not everybody's eye is the same shape... there are fittings based on the shape of corneas) and lens material. If your eyes are constantly getting dry, then there are options. Also, some doctors are better at fitting lenses than others. My father is an optometrist btw and I worked in his office for years and also worked in an optical selling glasses.
I wear the two week disposables... but I usually throw em out a little earlier than that because they really just start to itch after that first week. Thanks for the tip, I'll try and look into those.
I have the daily contacts but I hate them. I will wear them maybe 2-3 times a week. Mostly when I am doing stuff with friends or skiing or something. Glasses are just so much easier. Mornings are hard enough without having to fiddle with things you are putting into your eyes
Biofinity is a good lens... my eyes are naturally dry and I love them. However, only an optometrist can decide which lens type goes on your Rx.
I have glasses. Nope, I used to when I first had them like way back, but not anymore. I did sleep in em a lot before, and the optometrist said pretty soon contacts would stick to my eye balls.. wouldn't be able to get them out... so I quickly changed my habit. Well see, I usually don't take their recommendation for contacts, I mean usually they don't recommend just one brand, but I usually pick em out. However, the last time I went, he told me to get the astigmatism ones. Yeah, I'm going to try a new doctor this December and see what I can get differently. Oh, he is, if he is good, I can surely schedule an appointment with him. Thanks for the advice.
I wore contacts for decades, starting around 1965, until I developed cataracts. I was very lucky to have a superb surgeon and now have 20-15 in one eye and 20-25 in the other, with the result being at least 20-20 with both eyes open (heck, have to sleep sometime! ) So I don't need anything except reading glasses. My eyes were so bad that the distortion from having such thick lenses drove me even crazier than I am naturally, so put me in the contact lens camp.
Yeah for sure. I just got an eye exam last week to update my prescription on both glasses and contacts. I switched doctors as well. My new optometrist told me that the "two week" pairs have been in the market for years now and are using "older" technology. He said the one month ones (like I said, the brand I'm using is Biofinity) are "newer" technology and allow your eye to breath easier, thus be more comfortable. They seem to be working so far! Hope that helps....
Yeah, some Optometrists will just continue to let you wear the brand you've been wearing all along. Did you just recently have an exam? I would recommend going back for a follow up visit (By law, it's free within 90 days of the exam for contacts and 60 days for glasses) and ask for the doctor's recommendation. Don't mind giving my old man some business though. What part of town do you live in?
