Well, after being put on salarly over hourly and tried to get more per year and they said no, I found a new job. I wasn't looking but they called me, offered me more money. My old boss matched it but this was after they said they couldn't give me that 2 months before. I put in my 2 weeks notice and friday is my last day. This is going to be one long week. Has anyone not put in a notice? If so did you last the whole two weeks?
I hope to be putting in my two weeks notice very, very soon. I'm waiting on an offer right now...and I don't care if it's less than what I'm making now, I'm taking it. I seriously doubt I'll last two weeks when I give my notice. I doubt I'll last two minutes, honestly. I may not even tell them...I may just stop showing up. That's the way most things are handled where I work...by doing absolutely nothing.
I have over two months of sick time that I lose when I leave. I'll give them two months notice and then get a really bad case of the flu...
I'd get the flu and then two weeks before I was "better" I would inform them that I will not return upon my recovery (in two weeks).
I've done it once and I lasted all of 4 days. I couldn't take it. It was a manual labor type job and my heart just wasn't into it once I knew I was leaving. I just told them it was for the best if I didn't stick it out because I wasn't going to get anything done.
In the last two weeks, walk around work with a notepad. When people ask you what the notepad is for, you just say: "I would like to get some new ideas for my new job!" Your boss will not ask you to do anything in the last two weeks.
This company is not considered a competitor but we sell to the same companies. Funny thing, when they had me sign my salary form, they had a seperate form for an non-compete, I wasn't happy with my salary, so I didn't sign.
Giving notice is a good thing, you never know when you might work with some of those people again. DD
Yeah, not matter how bad the job is burning bridges usually comes back to bite you in the ass 1, 2 or even 10 years down the road.
I just put one in today. Please accept this letter as my formal notice of resignation from ----, effective January 17, 2006. The friendships I've made during my time here will truly be memorable for years to come. I hope a two-week notice is sufficient for you to find a replacement. If I can help in any way to train/assimilate my replacement or tie up any loose ends, please let me know. Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to work here.
100% class. This is the way to write a letter of resignation, people. Never burn a bridge unless it is absolutely necessary.
In the words of the immortal xcharged, who can't remember the password to get into CF.net's bbs: "Here's my two weeks' notice" (don't say, "how about I give you the finger..." sounds too Matrix'ish)
I just found out that I am the lowest paid person in my group despite my superior skills, higher work load and longer tenure than at least half of the other people. After several unkept promises for raises, I may be leaving soon too.
Mulder, I am in the same boat. After having management move me three and four times out and in of the Web Development / Administration / Systems / Linux / Programming areas, I am getting fed up that they may not know how to manage it. Why is it that when they create more positions like yours, they don't raise your salary to match the new positions? Must be the State laws.
4 days and you were complaining my last job I was required (by contract) to give 90 days notice (and my wife 120 days).... of course we're both docs so they need time to recruit replacements and get those guys on board with the insurances, hospitals, etc...
My two weeks looked something like this: "...my job consists of basically masking my contempt for the assholes in charge, and, at least once a day, retiring to the men's room so I can jerk off while I fantasize about a life that doesn't so closely resemble hell." I got a nice severance package, though.
The last two times I've given 2 weeks notice, it was great! There was no pressure at all and everyone in my department was jealous, except those who wanted my job. Like others have said, don't burn any bridges because you may need those relationships later down the line. NEVER EVER make enemies. You might need a jerk to help you out in the future.
I was a porter at a car dealership. I spent 9 hours a day washing cars that just came out of the body shop...during the summer. It wasn't exactly mind stimulating work. It wasn't hard to just walk away.
