In the spirit of bipartisanship, what do you have in common with the other side? Here's my list... My favorite actor is still John Wayne. I'm in favor of the death penalty (just not the execution). I go to church most Sundays. I like country music. I got me some investments. I love the flag. I don't like our debt. I like big vehicles. I don't trust Canada. I don't live on either coast. I think Vegas symbolizes the ruin of our civilization. I like Sousa marches. I've visited West Point, Annapolis, the AF Academy, and A&M. I shook hands with Jesse Helms. I'm a bit provincial. In high school, I mentally tortured and physically intimidated other kids. I wore a bow tie once.
I agree with strong border patrol. I believe in a balanced budget. I believe in less government intrusion in our personal lives. I believe in accountability. I love my SUV. Jesus is alright with me.
Among other things - I support laws banning illegal drugs. I agree Al Gore's "Midnight Basketball Program" is stupid. I think Southern accent is cool. I hate baggy pants worn by today's youth. I believe border patrol is a good thing in an imperfect world.
I respect Ronald Reagan - He was the voice of Iowa Football games for a few years in the 30's. Red is a nice color.
I believe in society's obligation to help those less fortunate. I think many Republicans are unsung heroes in that effort. I believe the National Guard served as a way for the affluent to get out of serving in Vietnam, for the sons of both Democrats and Republicans, and I don't begrudge George using it as a way out. As a bookend, I don't begrudge Dick using every deferment in the book, short of conscientious objector status, to stay out of the military during Vietnam. As a matter of fact, I think George gets too little credit for not crashing his jet fighter somewhere in our dear hinterland, considering how stoned he was getting back then, and he had plenty of good company in that endeavor. Getting stoned, that is. In retrospect, Ronald Reagan wasn't nearly as dangerous as I thought at the time. Not nearly as dangerous as George. I have something close to fondness towards the era today, something I couldn't imagine feeling for over 20 years after Ronnie was elected. I still love NASA and the Space Program, and George claims to feel the same way. Now, if he'd just get off his butt and save the Hubble, I might have a kind word or two to say about the guy. I think that George deserves more credit for Libya dismantling it's WMD program, with a nod to basso's thread. I'll come up with more later. Keep D&D Civil.
I love NASA and the space program. I support Space exploration Tough border security is a good one. There probably are more, but that is the list for now.
Traditional conservative values that I support (the problem is Republicans have thrown a lot these values under the bus in recent years). Fiscal responsibility Personal accountability Community service Appreciation for competence
me too. all of the above are true conservative principles, but unfortunately have nothing to do with the neocons. Fiscal responsibility - bush is the biggest fiscal liberal this country has ever had. he has spent more money than all previous 42 presidents combined (and he's only 5.5 years into office) Personal accountability - with bush the buck never stops here. its always someone elses fault. Community service - faith based programs, anyone? its not the job of the government to help people anymore. screw all that fdr hippie crap! Appreciation for competence - heck of a job brownie!
-I believe gay marriage should be mandatory -I believe religion can be a lift in your shoe, but we shouldn't be going around nailing lifts on the native's feet pace, george carlin -I believe Jesus was the first non-violent revolutionary pace, stephen stills -I believe too many people have died in the name of christ for anyone to heed the call pace, graham nash -I believe I shot my baby, down by the river -I believe Rush, Ann, Sean, Bill, Pat, and Jerry are wind bags I'd still hit Ann in a New York minute -I believe the republican members of congress have completely lost their way -I believe congressional spending is completely out of control not really a democrat concern tho -I believe I will never forgive the democratic party for playing crass politics with national security
Eric Clapton- Bell Bottom Blues, Wonderful Tonight, Layla Lynard Skynard- Free Bird All of Hendrix Most Beatles That Texas Town, a hah hah hah hah And Jesus is Alright With Me too A pastor can remember the days, 10' waves on the North Shore, my wife and some Maui Zowie
The "other side" for me are the recent "conservatives" who have taken over the GOP I thought was the right choice when I voted for GHWB (twice). In that respect, I do not agree with much. However, playing the lib-pig I seem to get labeled, I will define the "other side" as what I see as a traditional conservative. I want: A balanced budget Lowered debt load Government programs to run efficiently A strong military Limited actual use of the military Limited interference in foreign affairs Reduced numbers of abortions Limited government Government that stays out of the day-to-day affairs of the people
Being on the frontlines in Minnesota I can tell you we're well prepared for impending Canadian hostility. Speaking of such all of the worry has been about illegal Mexican immigration but what about all that illegal Canadian immigration? I can't tell you how many times I've encountered some wetback fresh from swimming across Lake Superior taking some job from an American and also expecting us to educate their children. And if you're going to come here learn the damn language! Don't come here going "Eh, Aye'm oot an aboot lookin to find sum werk." and expect for Americans like me to learn your Canuck gibberish. Also stop waving those stupid Maple Leaf flags or having Celine Dion sing OUR national anthem. You want to be accepted in this country then the least you could do is learn to love instead of showing loyalty to your pasty faced homeland. Screw sending the national guard and building a wall on our Southern border we need a wall on our Northern border before Candanians willing to work for Canadian wages take all our work and start building poutine stands all over the place. Mind you I'm not against those Canadians who come here legally but those illegals are just breaking the law. America for Americans not Canadians!
I bet it isn't hard to swim across Detroit river from Winsor at night. But why bother swimming across when you can just drive through on the bridge?
I'd like to build the world a home And furnish it with love Grow apple trees and honey bees And snow-white turtle doves Chorus: I'd like to teach the world to sing In perfect harmony I'd like to hold it in my arms And keep it company (That's the song I hear) I'd like to see the world for once (Let the world sing today) All standing hand in hand And hear them echo through the hills For peace throughout the land That's the song I hear (That's the song I hear) Let the world sing today (Let the whole wide world keep singing) A song of peace that echoes on And never goes away (Repeat 1st stanza and Chorus) Put your hand in my hand Let's begin today Put your hand in my hand Help me find a way (Repeat Chorus til fade)
I don't care if someone is gay. I don't care if they get married. I'm against prayer in school. I'm at least willing to listen to the legalizing drugs argument. I'm pro-life, but I don't base my vote on whether someone is pro life or pro choice. I hate political talk radio shows and all the cliche-spewing boobs that host/call them.
