I replied in the post around who is most racist and felt that it's overly negative. This is a counter topic. We're a divided and declining nation if you listen to all the TV shows, but here's why I believe in this country and the people. This was a country that elect a guy name Barack Hussein Obama in country that would make those that look at him sit in the back of the bus just fifty years ago. It is a country that is willing to elect some one with a name "Hussein" while fighting a "war" with an Arab Muslim nation after a Muslim terrorist attack. This is a country that will admit wrong, forgive transgressions, and reward merit. Can you imagine an Arab descendant leading France, an Indian descendant leading UK? Korean descendant leading Japan, or a Tibetan descendant leading China in the next 50 years? How about 100? Even in the increasingly xenophobic environment, America is a nation for immigrants. The fact that we have the civilized debates about the borders and how to treat illegal immigration shows how much more progressive we are toward immigrants than the rest of the world. Look at what's happening in Europe (supposed a more progressive continent) for comparison. Go to every college campus and you'll see for as much we are different, the younger generation are more than happy to find what makes us the same. This is a country where you go to most major companies, and you'll see diversity as a key imperative from the top down. It is that diversity that will hopefully help us adapt to new challenges ahead of us. This is a country where people in Texas are willing to build a statue for a black Muslim, but respect his wish not to. I was born in China, but grew up in Texas, I can say that outside of a couple of eye squint Ching-chong jokes in grade schools, I've been mostly given a fair shake, probably more fair than any other immigrant would get in any other other country. I chose to believe in this country and the people, who while flawed, still tries to improve. Merry Xmas and peace out.
I think you're miss reading the other thread because it wasn't about America. America is the greatest country in the world, and I don't think anyone living here doubts that. There's a lot of people that don't see the forest in front of the trees and think diversity is a failed experiment. However, compared to the rest of the world, it's working remarkable well. There's always room for improvement. Anyways, how does this relate to the other thread?
When you think about it, you said "America" not "Americans." Someone alluded to room for improvement. The greatest need for that is in our people. Both extremes are riddled with wrong-headedness.
Agreed Just because you are the best . . . does not mean there is no room for improvement. I think the extemist tend to think . . .if you say AMERICA ISN'T PERFECT then you are Dogging America and denograting it when you are simple point out a fact It is not perfect . . but it is the best game in town I find it hilarious when someone says . . . If you don't like it leave Which means they are ok to settle for what America is now .. and not strive for improvement . . . these same people will lament how GREAT a basketball player would have been if they 'tried' harder [hypocrasy????] America only gets better when people try to make it better Settling for mediocrity . .. sitting on our laurels [sp?] THAT IS *NOT* THE AMERICAN WAY!!~ Rocket River
