this thread is kind of a two-for-one.

first, there is this article, which says giuliani is the top fund raiser in texas. (ill just post the first few paragraphs)

For a native New Yorker mounting a first bid for national office, Rudolph W. Giuliani has shown an impressive ability to raise money in Texas, where his Republican presidential campaign collected $2.2 million in the first quarter of the year, far more than any other candidate.

Mr. Giuliani has drawn support from Texans who were notable donors to President Bush, including a former Enron president, Richard D. Kinder, and business executives who direct many of the nation’s oil, gas and energy producers.

And a good part of this success, analysts say, stems from his affiliation with a well-established and politically connected law firm that is based in Houston and bears his name, Bracewell & Giuliani.

That affiliation adds to Mr. Giuliani’s personal wealth but also could pose political risks for him. The firm is perhaps the nation’s most aggressive lobbyist for coal-fired power plants, heavy emitters of air pollutants and carbon dioxide, a gas associated with global warming. Environmentalists say the firm played a significant role in persuading the Bush administration to roll back major provisions of the Clean Air Act.

Mr. Giuliani joined the 400-lawyer firm as a name partner two years ago, and though his legal work has been limited, his association with it has provided him entree into the wellspring of Texas money that meant so much to the Bush campaigns.

In addition to collecting $89,000 in contributions from Bracewell partners and employees, Mr. Giuliani has held a fund-raiser in Houston. The firm’s managing partner, Patrick C. Oxford, is a top-shelf Bush fund-raiser with a wealth of contacts within Republican money circles.

Most significantly, perhaps, the law firm is one of the higher-profile defenders of the oil, gas and energy industries, to which it provides legal help and extensive lobbying services in Washington. It is difficult to say just how much of Mr. Giuliani’s contributions from those industries stem from his affiliation with Bracewell, but employees of companies in those sectors, including several Bracewell clients, have contributed more than $400,000 to Mr. Giuliani’s campaign so far.

now for the other part of the thread - republicans - i just dont understand what the appeal of this "dude" is to yall. really - is it just all the 9/11 stuff, b/c that seems to be all he has going for him.

i wish i could do a poll, because im curious to know what qualifies as a transvestite? dressing up once, twice, three times a lady? what about 10 times? this dressing like a woman thing seems like a hobby that he really, really enjoys - not just an isolated incident. its not like there was just one time where he went to a costume party dressed as a woman - a quick google search brings up a whole weeks worth of outfits.

how many of these wealthy texan donors know about his "other side"? im a native houstonian and i think i can safely say that that kind of stuff doesnt play down there, at least with all the good old boys.

seriously, how can anyone, republican or democrat, consider this person electable? here we have a pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-gun control, 3 times married, kids dont talk to him, nyfd hates him, dresses like a woman all the time trying to get the republican nomination. it really seems like the only thing that matters is that he has an "R" infront of his name, b/c if this was a democrat with all the dirty laundry i just listed he would be eaten alive/swiftboated. i guess it must be "9/11", which he reminds us of as much as possible.

as far as 9/11, why dont you ask the firefighters and rescue workers how they feel about him?

check this article out if you want to know how the nyfd feels about "americas mayor".

Many people consider Rudy Giuliani "America's Mayor," and many of our members who don't yet know the real story, may also have a positive view of him. This letter is intended to make all of our members aware of the egregious acts Mayor Giuliani committed against our members, our fallen on 9/11, and our New York City union officers following that horrific day.
The disrespect that he exhibited to our 343 fallen FDNY brothers, their families and our New York City IAFF leadership in the wake of that tragic day has not been forgiven or forgotten.

    So Jo....

    Who's your favourite Republican candidate???

Not sure why you're so insecure about his cross-dressing.

The Republican party could do with a sweet transvestite like him...

...they desperately need a jump to the left...

Can you imagine the commercials -- lol, running a few of those skits of Rudy in drag might turn Texas into a blue state in 08'.

ron paul is my favorite candidate - republican, democrat, independent, zoroastrian, whatever...

and im pretty sure you wont catch him dressing up like a woman all the time.

im not insecure about his cross-dressing. if thats what he enjoys doing than its none of my business. however, i am truly fascinated by the fact that a party which campaigns on an anti-gay platform and has a large part of its base rooted in evangelical christianity (who are not the most tolerant of people when it comes to homosexuals) could even think of nominating someone like this. the hypocrisy is astounding - bush and gannon, ted haggert, mark foley, cheneys lesbian daughter and giuliani's pretty dresses.

if i was a democrat i would be praying that the republicans nominate this guy - it would just be too easy.

all he has going for him is that he happened to be mayor of nyc on 9/11 - if he got the nomination all the dems would have to do is start running a bunch of commercials w/ nyfd talking about how they feel about "americas mayor". they hate him.

i guess sometimes lifes a drag!

Look at his record as Mayor of New York without considering his response to 9/11. It speaks for itself.

It certainly does - domineering, political, petty, polarizing, antagonistic, annoying, hysterical, self-indulgent.

Now I know that the natural response is something about the crime rate, but I've posted this before - the crime rate began to drop in Dinkins second year, right after he beefed up the force considerably, and continues to drop 5 years into Bloomberg. His mayoral achievements, IMO, dwarfs that of Rudy. I think he would be a tremendously efffective president. I think the incredible job that Bloomberg has done permanently deflates the myth of Giuliani as a super mayor.

    True That!

Ask the good people of Harlem and the lower Bronx how much they liked Rudy.

I don't want a leader who wants to be liked by everyone.

Then you should support bloomberg - he's already rich so he essentially doesn't give a sh-t what people think.

Giuliani on the other hand is a classic spotlight hound in love with the sound of his own voice...so he's in it for that and the cash. The amount that Rudy has physically cashed in on 9-11 is truly breathtaking.

I like Bloomberg too. Maybe 2012 if Guliani doesn't win.
