Girls with too much gum

Watch out for that second row of teeth.

 

I have many conversations about this issue with close friends who share my views regarding the gum smile.

 

I'm a male, but I had always felt my teeth were too small and I had a gummy smile.

I brought it up at a dentist's office one time and he suggested gum reduction surgery. It was a simple out patient procedure, cost me less than a thousand bucks, and I couldn't have been happier with the result. (Although I did need a little cosmetic veneer on the front four teeth to make it look better, which increased costs overall, but I had some veneers previously so they may not be necessary for all.)

Not everyone who has a gummy smile can get it though. There has to be more teeth underneath the gums. Some women (like the one in the picture) would benefit from some collagen in her upper lip too. Small lip + gummy smile is a bad combo.

 

Yeah, it's more annoying when they have too much teeth..

The gummy smile is a huge turn off for me.

 

My friend's girlfriend has quite a bit of gum.

She's gorgeous, but then she smiles big and it's just something you have to stare at.

 

They can fix that. Just go to any oral surgeon. They can fix not enough coverage and to much gum coverage.

i think miley has just a touch of it. not enough for it to be a turnoff (er...when she's 18, of course).

One of my students had to get the procedure done, and his family couldn't afford it. ( I teach at a Title I school)

So....I donated 8 hundo and his family was able to get the job done.

The results are amazing, and I'd argue that his new confidence has led to higher levels of achievement.

 

well, "horseface" would be the all-encompassing term, with gummy smile, long teeth, narrow jaw structure, and general Sarah Jessica parker features filling out the overall look.

this is a pretty easy procedure to fix, no?

but back to the original question, why is it that 14% of women have gummy smiles while only 7% of men suffer from this smile buster?
