They're the same height. Mathis weighs a little more. Mathis is a great kick returner and punt returner so is Ginn. Mathis one pro bowl and a questionable route runner. Ginn questionable route runner. Who would win in a foot race that is undecided, but very close in speed. Mathis is in his third year injured most of last year but did get five yards from breaking one. His first year barely touched the field as a receiver but got a touchdown on one of maybe ten times he was in the game as a receiver. I know everybody hates him for riding a motorcycle and getting hurt, but he is healthy and ready to role. So this thread is Mathis or Ginn.
I'm for keeping Mathis...if he's healthy. To be fair, the injury that kept him out of last season had nothing to do with the motorcycle accident. If he has learned how to run better routes, he can be the deep threat this team needs to take some pressure off of AJ.

It would be hard to pass up on a playmaker like this. Kubiak said in the offseason that he need players that can "put points on the board" and Ginn is that type of playmaker.
Provided AJ has time to run a deep route, he will thrive. That was the problem with Carr/O-line, and why people think AJ is just a solid slot/possession receiver. I've been waiting for years to see AJ run deep routes and humiliate the DB's and CB's with his strong physique and speed. When they would try it, by the time AJ was in position, Carr was staring at the heavens.
AJ has never impressed me trying to catch the deep ball. His judgment has looked suspect his entire time in Houston. Maybe it's lack of confidence in Carr, but I saw many times when Carr would throw a perfect bomb downfield, AJ would pull up like the ball was coming in short, and the ball would hit the field 10 yards ahead of him.
There were plenty of times that Carr had AJ on a 9 route, only to underthrow him, or put the ball over the wrong shoulder. People are always asking why can't our recievers get seperation...... answer, our QB underthrows or throws behind our receivers.
You're aiming too low, bro (and I like Kurt Warner). Realistically, we have a moderate upgrade over David Carr who's more experienced with the WCO and who's less "shell-shocked". But if we're going to hope, let's hope he's the next Brett Favre!
