http://blog.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/2007/02/gil_vs_deshawn_the_video.html Anyhow, today after practice, Gil took 100 one-handed college three-pointers, and DeShawn took 100 two-handed NBA three-pointers. Oh, and they bet $20,000. Brendan Haywood and Antonio Daniels kept score. Caron Butler rebounded. Cal Booth was the voice of justice and fair play. Virtually everyone else on the team sat and watched. Gil started out on fire, and finished up making 73 out of 100, with DeShawn attempting to distract him by spinning maniacally while dribbling a ball in the background. By the end, Gil was launching one-handed shots from out of bounds. "You think he's going to make 70 three-pointers?" he asked teammates, who questioned this strategy. "Get the [heck] out of here." In any case, Gil was making em one-handed from out of bounds, too. Then DeShawn set in. He made his first 13. It got quiet. He made 17 out of his first 18. "Damn, dawg," Gil said. Then Gil got to work. He started jumping up and down while DeShawn shot. He started dancing around in circles. He started screaming at A.D. for constant scoring options. He got in DeShawn's face. He did some Matrix moves, sort of some modified flips or rolls. He pretended to kick DeShawn. He pretended to be a quarterback, taking a snap and dropping back to pass in front of DeShawn. He screamed a lot. He jumped some more. DeShawn cooled off. Going into the last shooting station (10 shots), DeShawn was 10 down. He could still tie. He had made his first 10 shots from that same spot. Gil was hyper beyond belief, squirming and wiggling on the ground. DeShawn made his first 5. My palms got all sweaty. He missed the sixth. Gil began breakdancing and laughing uncontrollably. DeShawn stormed off the court. "Hey, I hope this don't mess you up for tomorrow," Gil yelled after him. "You ain't gonna never hear the end of that one," A.D. said. "Gilbert found some way some how to distract him in the clutch," Caron said. DeShawn said he wasn't talking to Gilbert any more. He said the distractions were just too much. "I think Gil crossed some boundaries," Cal the judge said. "I think a rematch is in order."
The Post has some awesome insider stories. Do any of you think if any one of the Rockets were to do this the Chron would report on it??? OK OK this was a bit dramatic with the 20,000 bet and all but still, I know a lot goes on behind the scenes that we never hear about. I wish we got the same insider treatment here the fans in Washington do.
They would definitely report on it. The article would bash Washington fans who mocked DeShawn for the miss because they're ignoring his strengths. They would then praise Arenas for mocking DeShawn for the miss because that builds chemistry. The piece would be entitled "Stevenson All Wizards Need From Long Range".

just reinforces his cocky/bad-winner/immature image (esp. the vid). Which apparently he likes. And most of you do, too.
Gilbert is going to be broke within a few years of retiring. I heard Barkley talking about how Arenas threw himself a $1 million birthday party and now we find out he casually makes bets for $20,000? I hope the NBA pension plan is generous to him.
I never understood the after practice antics in sports. Personally I cant wait to get the hell home and take a nap or somethin.
From the video, Deshawn played it fair whereas Arenas' distraction was simply too much..... I feel more and more to dislike Gilbert, some said he is funny and 'real' but i started to think he is really annoying and cocky though not kobe's level yet!
Practice? We're talking about practice. Practice. Not a game. Not a game. Not a game. We talking about practice. not the game not the game that i go out there and die for. We talkin' practice.
From my understanding of these little contests, Deshawn should have known not to get lured into it. Gilbert always resorts to extreme measures not to lose. That was funny. Watching Gilbert flick those one handers like they were layups was sick.
