Guys, if anyone is interested, I have some gigs I'm doing this weekend. My band, Chapter Two, is doing a semi-acoustic show on Saturday at Ovation's (in Rice U. Village) beginning around 10 or 10:30. Also, I'm doing a "reunion" with the band The Basics at the International Festival on Sunday at 1pm - the stage in Sam Houston Park. I played with them for many years in the mid-90's and they are doing a reunion of sorts this weekend so I'm doing half the show with them. So, if anyone feels like showing up, come say "hey."
Wish i could be there...Oh, and can I ask? Why Chapter Two? Not saying it's not great, just have been there when bands were trying to come up with names, and am always curious as to how it happens for others...
Seven Mary Three Sum 41 Blink 182 Matchbox 20 Three doors down Jeff wanted to be in the first band with a number in the band name that DIDN'T suck!
Hey Jeff, good luck man. When are you gonna make your way to Portland, OR!? ps- I'm finally going to hook up that G4 laptop this summer. Its a requirement for Berklee School of Music (Boston) where I'll be next fall.
In reality, Mrs JB made the suggestion. We were going over a ton of different names and it was one of the few that fit and there was a decent web address available for it. My songwriting partner and I formed the band and this is the second project we've done together so it works. Coming up with band names almost always sucks.
It is nearly impossible to come up with a good band name that doesn't sound cheesy. That's why my all-time favorite band names are The Radical Shiite God Squad, Pontius Pilate and the Nail Drivin' Five, and Squirt & the Jism.
I had these close friends who were a really cool band...got label interest before a mini-Yoko Ono style inspired breakup melodrama..anyways, they were deciding on a name early on, and I kept recomending The Four Yorkshiremen...in honor of Monthy Python's immortal sketch...They kept pointing out that they were not from Yorkshire, and that there were 5 of them...Which was the point, I thought, but it never flew...To this day I recommend it as a band name to passers by on the street. P.S. Jeff, as you never post in the poli-threads anymore, I will choose this moment to confess that I am developing a non-sexual crush on your wife...If that bothers you one bit, which I doubt, it might help to know that I'm pretty sure she thinks I'm a git. oh...heh heh.. I should add, joke...sort of...
That's great. Having been in bands and planning to hopefully be in at least one more, I'm always looking for a good name. I've always thought Ass Monkey would be fun..
1) I was soooo ahead of my time. If they had listened to me, they would have gone places...ok, maybe not, but they would have not gone places with a cooler name. Off the record, I always hated the name they chose, but they had a song about me and thanked me on their liner for their 1st ( and only ) album, so it grew on me. 2) You are cool. If I was more secure with my sexuality, I would have a non-sexual crush on you too...and we could have a non-sexual mena...uhhh, best left unsaid...
no no no...Sonic Death Monkey... Transendental Brouhaha World Wide Octopus Dental Work I've always thought diseases and body parts were cool band names...Saliva, Adema (though the correct spelling is "edema", so I wonder that's what they were aiming for) How about: Aneurysm Ischemia Cranial Fossa Circle of Willis Torn ACL
"Circle of Willis" kicks ass. Prefrontal Lobe Crotch Rot Sepsis I always thought Small Craft Advisory was a cool local band name.
Sorry I'm gonna miss these, Jeff. I'm in tech rehearsal both days 12 - 12, or I'd come out. As my friend Kevin says, rock hard and true. As for band names, Dry Nodler's still available if anyone wants it. As is Daddy Likes Men.
Sorry I can't make it, Jeff. We are playing at The Mercury Room Saturday and I'm tied up Sunday. You need to check us out as well, and don't give me that smoky room b.s. that you always give me.
Jeff, did you know Donna McKenzie? I used to work with her on a radio show called Made in Texas and we featured the Basics a couple of times. Weren't ya'll in the running for a Grammy nomination at one time?
