WHOOP!!! LSU is going down next ... Need to take the "big baby" out! Oh yeah and GMac only sucked tonight because he was hurt .. I still say the D had a little bit to do with it. He had NO open looks period. They made the decision to take him out of the game and he was taken out. I'm sure he could have done better, but him sucking was more than just his injury. Billy G knows how to draw up a defensive game plan!
Great win! LSU should be a great game. This is also the first time in my life that A&M has won a tourney game
we gigged their goozies like there was no tommorow. gmac got googed, he cried, and got his giggly swated about 20ft by marlon macgiggerton. wrecking crew bball defense is comin to gig the bayou bengals goo. whoopaballoo gig gig gig goo
The D was pretty tenacious. The 2nd half I was worried the momentum was slowly turning. But those two drives late in the game by Acie Law sealed the deal. I loved the way he attacked the basket those two back to back drives!
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/ncaatourney06/news/story?id=2372028 Ailing McNamara goes out with a whimper By Joe Wojciechowski Special to ESPN.com JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- This time, there would be no miracles. This time, all Syracuse senior Gerry McNamara could do was sit on the bench, rubbing his neck until it turned every shade of red as the fifth-seeded Orange fell 66-58 to No. 12 seed Texas A&M. McNamara, who single-handedly carried Syracuse to the Big East championship just four days earlier, was a shell of himself due to a groin injury that severely limited his practice time and kept him on the bench for much of the second half, including the final five minutes. "If you watched the game, you knew why he wasn't in the game," said Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim. "Gerry could not make plays tonight. If anything, I played him too much." Of course, McNamara wouldn't admit as much. When asked about his health, McNamara simply stared at the ground and said, "I feel all right. I feel great. My last game and we lost, probably because of me. It's fantastic, a great feeling." Forgive McNamara for being bitter. After making amazing, game-winning plays in four consecutive days at the Big East Tournament to cement his Syracuse legacy, McNamara didn't even finish with four points in his final NCAA Tournament. He couldn't get off screens. He couldn't get his legs under his shots. In all, he was 0-for-6, including 0-for-5 on 3-pointers. He finished with two points thanks to a pair of free throws. "We don't make excuses," Boeheim said. "They played well defensively and they deserved to win the game." They, of course, are the Aggies. It's easy to forget about them. They weren't even sure they were going to be in the tournament and snagging the 12th seed is hardly a badge of honor. But it kind of fits Texas A&M. "We don't play a real pretty game," said senior Chris Walker. "It's ugly and that's the way we like it. It surprises a lot of people." It surprised everyone Thursday night. Who knew the Aggies could play defense like this? They aren't the most athletic team. They aren't real big. They're just, well, annoying. Really, they just won't go away. Ask Syracuse, which was held to just 39 percent shooting (20-of-51) from the field, including 4-of-19 from 3-point range. "You could sense they were getting frustrated," said A&M's Acie Law, who finished with 23 points. "That's what we do. We play hard, get in your face and get on your nerves. It's a credit to our team defense and we just try to frustrate other teams." So far, it's working. They've won nine of their last 10 games, but if the Aggies had their way, everyone would talk about anything but Texas A&M. To them, it's better that McNamara's injury is in the spotlight and not the A&M defense. They like flying under the radar a little better. "Back when we were 3-6 in conference and had just lost to Texas, we had a team meeting and decided we would shock the world," Law said. "No one outside of this family, this team believed in us. It made us what we are today and we've been rolling ever since." Joe Wojciechowski is a contributor to ESPN.com.
As a proud UT Longhorn alum from the class of 1983, all I have to say is.... WHOOP!!! What a great game for the Aggies. I watched the whole thing, and found myself rooting for the Ags all the way. What smothering defense they played. And, IMHO, Acie Law is going to make a really good NBA player. If the Ags play like that, they can beat pretty much anybody. Against LSU, I look for the Ags to use a full court press for pretty much the whole game. LSU has the advantage in the paint, but the Ags have better guards, and if their guards can cause some havoc in LSU's backcourt, the Aggies have a great chance to beat them. I hope my beloved Longhorns can play tough like the Aggies tonight against Penn. Props to Coach Gillespie and the A&M hoops squad. They played brilliant NCAA tournament baskeball last night. Very impressive.
Wow - a Longhorn whooping it up! Thanks for the props! Maybe we'll make you a converted Aggie yet . That's the fun thing about the NCAA Tournie I love. The underdog always has a chance! I expect your Horns to get by Penn. You guys are pretty tough.
i'm a big UT fan. i've never liked the Aggies. i picked Syracuse to win. but i found myself rooting like crazy for the Aggies last night. that was great!!!
Well, I had A&M over the Cuse as one of my 12-5 upset specials. Hopefully, yesterday will be the last time I ever root for the Aggies in my life! Great win, though.
i've always hated OU but to me the aggs are like an annoying little brother when i was bowling collegiately the aggies were always good sports and i've always liked the aggs. i was pulling for the aggies last night. i love the way they play and they are a tough team. they should give LSU fits and i'm taking a&m to the sweet 16.
UH grad...Austin resident...but.... Congrats to A&M on a great effort and solid win. Good luck and take it to the Tigers while your at it!
