I'm only 21 years old, so I've just barely left adolescence a few years ago, yet all of my favorite things from my childhood are being made into movies or brought back. I'll never grow up.

    Scoop!
    SCOOP: Who`s in G.I. JOE?
A source fills us in with inside information

Yesterday FilmForce published an exclusive report stating that producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is turning Hasbro's G.I. JOE toy franchise into a live-action movie. FilmForce also reports that the script will be done by writer Michael Gordon and that while deals for both men are complete, an announcement may be published in the movie trade magazines sometime in February.

Also mentioned was that the movie will utilize characters from the popular 1980s cartoon series and not so much the modern day JOE line.

Thanks to the efforts of one of our sources, who has knowledge of the Bonaventura production, we've been told a general outline of the movie's storyline as it stands now plus which characters are in the film.

According to our source, the movie is more-or-less a prequel to the cartoon G.I. JOE series. Set before the rise of the COBRA organization, the film will show how the man the world will one day call Cobra Commander created his terrorist organization and honed it into a worldwide threat. Other COBRA characters, such as Destro and Stormshadow, are being planned to be included in the film. While Cobra Commander doesn't wear the costume he is best-known for during the bulk of the film (the blue COBRA garb complete with hood), by the conclusion of the film he will be decked out in it.

As for who is on the JOE team, look for appearances by the team's main players, such as Duke, Hawk and Snake Eyes. In fact, one of the ideas being kicked around at this stage of story development is touching upon the origin of Snake Eyes and Stormshadow, albeit in a minor way. As fans of the cartoon series know, both ninja characters have their origins tied together.

Since the screenplay is in a constant state of flow, things could change and new characters could be introduced at any time. However, the primary guideline the G.I. JOE movie creators are using is to try and be as faithful to the '80s incarnation of the team as possible.

I wonder if anybody will acually get shot instead of their vehicle blowing up and if the good and bad guys will have to use different colored laser guns.

I hope they actually spend some time on the plot and character development instead of just focusing on the fights, explosions and special effects. Something in the line of Spiderman. I don't think people are too impressed with special effects any more, with all the high-tech superhero films out nowadays. What separates a great one from a crappy one will be the storytelling.

Uh, yeah. That's what they do. Soon you realize that you'll get sick of seeing hollywood re-doing old stuff and you'll start thinking, "Sheesh, can't they come up with an original idea?"

    That's when it starts.

Soon, you'll get angry when they start f*cking with the classics that you grew up with and loved (for my generation it's been 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas', 'The Cat in the Hat', 'Scooby Doo', etc.)

Before you know it, you'll be listening to a.m. radio.

Then you'll see all your favorite music used on TV to sell products.... Then you'll see compilations of your favorite music on a 1-800 commercial "The greatest Rock hits of 2003 - on CD and casette (or whatever media will be used by that time)"

And then, after a few teenagers laugh at you a few times, you'll realize, "Oh, man! I'm an old fart! This sucks"

    happens to us all

Same thing happend to me 20 years ago when they made GI Joe into a cartoon and they tried to make him 2" tall instead of 12" tall.

The real GI Joe came in a foot locker with his accessories. Had feet that got stuck in his boots when you pulled them off. He had peach fuzz hair and a beard. He had hands that were in a shape made to hold a rifle until the revolutionary kung fu grip came out. That sir was the real GI Joe. His foes in my day were the 6 million dollar man, the lone ranger, Ken and Evil Kenevil. Ah I loved my GI Joe Days.

I would just like to briefly point out a very important corollary fact:

    Snake-Eyes kicks serious ass.

    Oh yeah.

    Carry on.

I loved my "action figures." The small ones were cheap and you could buy enough to have a war in your room. Classic battles such as the Assault on (my)Bed Ridge, Escape from Cobra's (my)Bookshelf Tower, or ocean battles such as the Battle of Bathtub Straits.

Excellent post. I feel the exact same way, except you forgot to mention that VH1 has a couple of shows dedicated to your decade! That's when you are truly dated.

Starring Tom Cruise and, if he's not available, then Keanu Reeves. If both of them are not available, then Mathew McCona-"hay".

This from leading inside sources....mainly from inside my bowel.

im past my prime but i still collect snakeeyes figures for some reason, just because hes badass. S eyes and Sshadow fought together in NAM, then they went to Japan and got trained as ninjas. then zartan killed their master and snake eyes joined gijoe and stormshadow went undercover in cobra to find the killer. he eventually came back to gijoe but in the new series, they brainwashed him and brought him back to cobra. why they would do that again is beyond me. (i kinow this because my brother left me a whole stack of comics)

i knew the 80's were back once they brought back TMNT, i bet you anything they will make a nother movie within 5 years. they are already making a friggin garfield movie, already destroying a horrible comic that became unfunny 15 years ago.

i wonder if gijoe will have those stupid friggin lazers? now that i think about it, the ninjas were much cooler on the cartoon than the guys with guns because the fricken lazers would always miss except they could hit a hand holding a gun from 500 feet. and the friggin vehicles had fricken lazers too. and they would hit the vehicles, but never ever any casualties, at most a broken arm and a sore hand (that sounds bad).

TMNT had lasers too. There are probably some guidelines one has to follow in place for violence in children's programming. I remember reading an article about the '90s Spider-Man series and it said that he wasn't allowed to so much as punch someone.

Snake Eyes was nothing but a mute.

Anyone remember the GI Joe movie, when Golobulus and Serpentor turned Cobra Commander into snake with the spores? The same spores were supposed to mutate all humans, except those under the Cobra-la ice dome. Then Falcon took over the B.E.T. (Broadcast Energy Transmitter) and fried all the spores in space.

Man, my parents must've spend hundreds of dollars buying me GI Joe stuff. I had it all. The Conquest plane, the Havoc, the Dreaknok mobile. Good times, too bad they don't make toys like that anymore.

Actually, he's lost a lot of weight. He had a match on Raw last month.
