don't you know that only black people can make fun of / glorify the 'hood? same philosophy that applies to non-jewish depictions of the holocaust and non-chinese criticism of the chinese govt, non-rockets fan criticism of the rockets. "disrespectful", "offensive", "insensitive", "cynical", "ignorant", "stereotypical", etc. etc.
How do you know that the people who are protesting put up with the message from gangsta rappers? I don't really listen to rap, but I'm pretty sure most rap these days is just about boasting about how much money they have or singing about women with big asses.
I think the guy is fine doing what he is doing. People need to laugh more... And, if you don't like it....don't buy it. Excercise your right to not particpate in it's success, but don't try to stop others from laughing at humor, or themselves. Also, Icehouse is incorrect, you can not copyright a style of game. DD
The creator didn't get his ideas for the game out of thin air. It had to come from somewhere, and that is obviously from his exposure to the hip hop culture: drugs, big chains, hoops, ebonics, guns, bigger chains, bottles of 40, flashy cars and near naked women. If those rap stars did not espouse these things and MTV promoting it, then it wouldn't become the mainstream stereotype of the genre as we know it. If people have a beef with his game, they need to tackle the bigger issue of the inner city image. And to make him out to be some defaming ahole is ridiculous. If that's the case, all the comedians on BET, MadTV and Chris Rock would be sued for slander.
It's a widespread belief that all blacks are the way that game presents them. If you can't see why a game like that pisses people off, it's because not everybody assumes you and others like you are rednecks. Again, if you watch MTV, you don't see black rappers walking around a ghetto with malt liquor and guns in their pants while driving lowriders, they pull up to huge mansions in expensive foreign cars and drink Cristal.
It is NOT a widespread belief Oski......and maybe he got his ideas from movies........that satire that stuff. People are too darned sensitive these days. DD
How do you know what too sensitive is? If you've never been in those shoes, where is your basis for what is too sensitive and what isn't?
My basis is whatever the heck I deem to be sensitive.....and your comments qualify.... Any other questions? DD
It was a simple question and now you are bringing this tough guy act. . . Why are you so sensitive to people questioning your opinions?
That is what this is about. It is about power. And some stereotyped groups want the power to say "I deem that to be sensitive" and not have to wait for your (or anyone else's approval). Oh, and I don't like the game (most of the one's the guy is planning target black people) and neither do I like the redneck "Outlaw" video game series, most music videos, pretty much every comedian on BET, and most pop hip-hop. Finally, I think that if it is funny when a guy in the group does it, it should be fine for a guy outside the group to do it, too.
I guess my humor went over some peoples heads. I am hardly trying to be a tough guy. I just think people need to laugh more. By the way JeffB, since when is an opinion having the power? DD
People should laugh more. That doesn't mean they have to laugh at someone else's expense. DD: I don't think I said that having an opinion is having the power. I was thinking more along the lines of Foucault's ideas about power.
