the whole of Detroit as well as the previously mentioned New Orleans are both poverty striken cities on the decline.
I would call NO more seedy, and Detroit is more ghetto.

so detroit is the best answer. or maybe DC

if you are looking for the largest "projects", well that is a development in NY. In the Bronx. Called "CO-OP city". it is not a project persee as in a government built hopusing project, however it is the single largest housing development in history and it also happens to be low income.
you can thank Donald trumps father for its ecistnace.

most of this countries (HUD) government projects are in Chicago if thats what you want.

peace

AND FYI, and yes this does deserve its own post...

Harlem is not, nor ever was Ghetto.

Harlem is actually a collection of massive high end apartment buildings that were built on upper manhattan Island as a result of the planned subway system. after the subway opened many developments flourished. unfortunately(for its developers) harlem did not. what is now midtown did, and you can see what i mean every time you watch king kong ;)

as a result of the financial strain of these empty buildings the developer eventually got desperate. he enlisted a black church leader (much like jessee jackson or Al Sharpton of his time) for his help. this church leader(whose name eludes me) encouraged the developing black middle class to all move to harlem from queens. well they did. and this leed to the high times of the roaring 20's. known as the Harlem Renesaince. you may have heard of the cotton club, or the Apollo theatre. maybe seen some of the movies about those times?.

anyhow, even today harlem is a pretty decent area. it just has always had a bad rap because of all of the lingering racial bigotry and ignorance.

now the bronx.... well thats a whole nother story

hope some of you have learned something from all of my typing :)

PEACE

and thats why he's the Voice of Reason.

come on people!

brooklyn is not a neighborhood,it is a BOROUGH of New YOrk City. That goes for Queens, Bronx, and Staten Island, and Manhattan.
there are literally HUNDREDS of neighborhoods in each of these boroughs. Each neighborhood is unique and if there are lower income communtities, then so be it. THrow me into the melting pot, thats my philosophy.

You cant just say"brooklyn" is the biggest ghetto. THere are ghettos in every borough, there are ghettoes in EVERY inner city in America, but to put the entire borough of brooklyn or queens is a little broad.

Me?I live right across the street from the Dewitt Clinton Housing Projects, in an old tenement building that Voice of Reason was mentioning.

I Love it here.

OK, get your buddy to check out Savage Inequalities by Jonathan Kozol. I thought I actually had the book, but much of it is about East St. Louis and what a general ****hole it is.
