First of all let me just put everyones mind at ease. Im not fiishing for a sponsor here! :D

I set up a web site in February and its growing at a nice rate. Its been great fun to set up and its a bit of a minor miricle when you consider I have ZERO HTML knowledge. :p

Thing is, its about the only web site left that isnt sponsored and I want that to change.

The target audience of the web site is sports fans in Australia, New Zealand and the UK. Over half of my visitors are from the UK and because of the nature of my site and the fact Im pretty well known on certain major web sites in both Aus and GB....I can reach a lot of people in a short space of time.

I know the products that would get the best out of sponsoring my web site (Sports Tours, Sports Merchandise).

So here are my question to those in the know?

How do you approch a potential sponsor?

What does a sponsor want to see in the information your present them?

Is there a set formula for how a sponsor pays (Per page view, per click through, per perchase) or is it on a case by case basis?

Any advice anyone can give me would be great.

Ive never even attempted anything like this so even the smallest bit of info would be appriciated. ;)

Have you tried cj.com? They represent some of the largest advertisers in the world, including Sony, buy.com, ebay, Wall Street Journal, Yahoo, etc.

CJ pays by conversion. So if someone clicks on your link and buys something, you get paid.

Another good program is google adsense. You get paid by clickthroughs I think.

What's the URL for your site. Let's see it. :)

    Its in my signature: http://leaguefreak.playiirl.com/

Its still a work in progress but by next season I hope to have a number of other contributers on the site and have it really gearing up.

Im not looking for huge sponsorship either. I mean, I know my site is small and the amount of people making money out of web sites you can count on one hand......but at the same time there is an opportunity there to not only get something going for myself but for a sponsor to get something out of it as well.

It's a pretty cool site. I don't know about the sport, but I really enjoy the futurama graphics. :)

    EDIT
Google "Link Exchange". I used to get checks from DIsney.com and www.mcafee.com from selling their things off my site through LinkExchange. They explain their pricing and percentage stuff.

    TIP:
Try going to Rugby-showing Sports Bars and just talking "casually" with the owner. Tell him you will drag people to his bar because they see his bar's name on your site. I have gotten some web site "gigs" just talking to business owners directly.

    TIP:
Try exchanging links to businesses on the web who sell Rugby apparel or Rugby leagues.

Anything rugby-related should be a targetted audience and contact on your page.

    UNSOLICITIED Tip:
Ditch the "Enter here" first page. It's
    1. annoying, irritating
    2. useless
    3. bandwith-wasting

Why do I have to click on an "Enter Here" splash page, where the only place I could go is IN? Only use a "splash" page if you're giving the viewer a choice, as most celebrities and singers do "Low-end HTML" or "High-bandwith Flash" choices. Just my advice, though...

Nonetheless, if you're serious about having "ZERO knowledge of HTML", it's a good-looking site. Otherwise, it's still a good site. How did you learn it if not with HTML, anyway? SiteBuilder?

Yeah, I use yahoo site builder.

And yes, Im serious, I have no html knowledge. I do have the ability to make come good looking graphics though. :)

I have been thinking about getting rid of the the "enter here" page for a while. I might just make it skip onto the "Front" page.

When you approach a businesses about sponsoring a web site...what do you say? Do you talk about forming a parnternship with that businesses and sell them on the fact that their target audience are the same people that visit your site?

Also, is it a good idea to set up a page on my web site showing potentual sponsors where their banners would be placed?
