Go down to one of the Department of Motor Vehicle Branches. Be sure to pack a lunch and watch out for these two:

I believe you have to take a written test but not the driving part. There is a fee.

When I swiched licenses from TX to PA it was quick and painless. Cost like $15 or something though I'm sure it's different state to state. I just handed them over my TX license they took my picture I did my signature and they automatically made it. No waiting in the mail no paper copy just BOOM it was done no muss or fuss. I was kind of worried too considering I have warrants out with like every police, constable and sherrif's dept. in Houston for unpaid speeding tickets but they didn't say anything about it if it did in fact show up.

If I remember right, renewing your license in Texas costs $24; I'd assume getting it switched would be the same.

When I switched mine from CA to TX in 1998, all I had to do was hand over my CA license, fill out paperwork, and pay like $15. No test. To avoid lines, go to the DMV office on South Gessner near West Airport in SW Houston. I've never hit a line there when I go during the workweek in the middle of the day.

    Geez, sounds complicated...

Here's what you do...get a Sharpie, scratch out "North Carolina" and write "Texas" on there...

It's about 20 minutes without traffic. Take Westheimer e. to the Beltway, then take that south past Hwy 59 to West Airport, and make a left.
