I'm sick and tired of the junk mail I receive from credit card companies. It's worsened every since my wife and I bought a home a couple of years ago. I probably get at least 10 letters a week. I've been trying to think of a way to get them back, even if it's in a small way. What if I, we, started sending back their junk letters in the envelopes they provide? Would they have to pay for that? How do those self addressed pre-paid envelopes work? Are they billed once those go back to them? I would love for them to get charged for their own junk mail. I would send them back all of the paper in the envelope, omitting my name and address of course. Would this be worth it?
All right, it's true! Of course nobody needs mail. What do you think, you're so clever for figuring that out? But you don't know the half of what goes over there. So just walk away, Madmax. I beg of you.
i love that episode!!! well now they've done it...now i'm gonna have to go down there....and talk to them.
derailed??? it's right on target!!! there is a nearly exact replay of this on a seinfeld episode. unfortunately for you, your character is played by Kramer!
I don't care so much about the credit card companies. What I can't stand is that AOL packaging has gone from small sleeves to frickin DVD size plastic cases. I think it's time for some environmentalists to step in and put a stop to their wastefulness.
That happens to me more often than I like to admit. Then I have to pay over the phone and get a 10 dollar charge
mark the junk mail, REFUSED or NO ONE BY THAT NAME AT THIS ADDRESS - RETURN TO SENDER... they'd love that... I used to mail back all the junk in my CC bill with my payment.... I only have one CC bill now and I pay it online, so I don't even open the bill I get in the mail... my statement is online.
You can call one of the credit reporting companies (like Equifax) and have a block placed on your credit record that requires everyone who wants to have a peek to get your permission first. I was getting tons of credit card solicitations, but after I called Equifax and had the block placed, the number dropped to virtually nil (one or two over a few months). The problem with this is that check-verifying services like Tele-Check will automatically deny you, so places like Kwik-Lube and Pizza Hut will say no to your check.
I get that crap all the time. Especially since I bought my house. Every day I get mail offering me mortgage insurance. I usually just stick a bunch of crap back in the envelope (like pennies, pencil sharpenings, cat food, or stale lunchmeat) and send it right back to 'em. No sense wasting the envelope when the postage is already paid.
Here's a quick tip to those choosing to mail things back to the CC companies. Don't choose random things from your garbage. Choosing random bits of trash to mail them can lead to the possibility that you might get some sugar, salt or other white powder in there. Then, if you just happen to be doing this during a time when people are getting Anthrax mailed to them, the secret service will not look too kindly on your attempts to make the credit card companies pay. Trust me on this.
I got this an email once: Andy Rooney's Tips...they just might work Three Little Words That Work !! (1)The three little words are: "Hold On, Please..." Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt. Then when you eventually hear the phone company's "beep-beep-beep" tone, you know it's time to go back and hang up your handset, which has efficiently completed its task. These three little words will help el iminate telephone soliciting. (2) Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end? This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers the phone. This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a "real" sales person to call back and get someone at home. What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible. This confuses the machine that dialed the call and it kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer !!! (3) Junk Mail Help: When you get "ads" enclosed with your phone or utility bill, return these "ads" with your payment. Let the sending companies throw their own junk mail away. When you get those "pre-approved" letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the return envelope. Most of these come with postage-paid return envelopes, right? It costs them more than the regular 37cents postage "IF" and when they receive them back. It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The postage was around 50 cents before the last increase and it is according to the weight. In that case, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it in these cool little, postage-paid return envelopes. One of Andy Rooney's (60 minutes) ideas. Send an ad for your local chimney cleaner to American Express. Send a pizza coupon to Citibank. If you didn't get anything else that day, then just send them their blank application back! If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn't on anything you send them. You can even send the envelope back empty if you want to just to keep them guessing! It still costs them 37cents. The banks and credit card companies are currently getting a lot of their own junk back in the mail, but folks, we need to OVERWHELM them. Let's let them know what it's like to get lots of junk mail, and best of all they're paying for it...Twice! Let's help keep our postal service busy since they are saying that e-mail is cutting into their business profits, and that's why they need to increase postage costs again. You get the idea ! If enough people follow these tips, it will work---- I have been doing this for years, and I get very little junk mail anymore. THIS JUST MIGHT BE ONE E-MAIL THAT YOU WILL WANT TO FORWARD TO YOUR FRIENDS
