This Texan coach is killing me!!..why can this coach be aggressive like the Sean Payton or bill belichick..kubiak loves to take the foot off the petal when he has a ok lead..any other great coaches wouldn't dare let this happen.. This coach needs to give Matt Schaub some freedom, like let him do a no huddle offense or audible..Matt schaub is a pocket passer, he is no where near a mobile quarterback so that makes him a very predictable quarterback.. Atleast with no huddle he can wear down the defense.. Idk why you guys hate on Matt schaub, the guy does make bad decisions but every good quarterback makes them..so I say before you cast stones on our qb I would look into the coaching system on our team..this just my observation and opinion on our qb situation here .
So, what you're suggesting is that we fire the coach? Hmmmm, that's never really been brought up around here before. I'll be interested to see what some other posters think about this revolutionary new concept.
Exactly. Everybody is saying he needs to be more "aggressive", when going conservative in that situation likely forces the Seahawks to go the length of the field with little time left, needing a TD to tie it up. Likewise, they opened up nearly every second half drive with multiple pass attempts (by that time, Seattle started getting to Schaub with more frequency, and forced a lot of throw-aways or sacks). The one time they tried to run the ball in the 3rd, ended up with a Tate fumble. I'm sure Cushing being out, and the way they had found holes in the Seahawks secondary in the first half played into his mindset on why he called for a pass as the end... but it still was the "aggressive" call that put Schaub in the situation to make an awful, awful mistake.
This guy knows what he's talking about and you're making fun of him. He's probably an NFL executive with access to our forums. He brings FRESHNESS to our dire situation. We should, perhaps, sticky this thread?
fans are mistaking lack of execution for conservativeness. the majority of their second half drives began with a pass.
Kubiak has his good and bad points. I was against his hiring because he had no head coach experience. He has one of the longest relatively unproductive tenures of any NFL head coach. The last two years the team had great W-L records, but most of the losses were against the elite teams. Not a path to the SB. The main complaints against Kubiak is he is too conservative and predictable. Too stubborn, too laid back. Yes, Sean Peyton has Drew Breese, but he would make a huge difference here in Houston for the reasons we have mentioned. He is relatively laid back, but he is very creative and aggressive. Last night the Saints never took the foot off the peddle. They masterfully mixed up the Miami defense. Schaub would be holding a clip board in New Orleans. Both Kubiak and Schaub appear to be very nice guys, but they are in the NFL. The Texans have talent, but they don't have the edge of a great coach and great QB. You need at least one of the two. We have neither.
You don't go aggressive when you're up on the scoreboard, have a competent defense and a good punter who can give you favorable field position. If the defense was playing horribly and/or we're losing I would not have any issues with the aggressive playcalling.
^^ totally agree, look at the saints now..they've made a complete 180 degrees since last season..kubiak needs to change his playbook a lil bit and stop being so predicable...
You do realize that Payton never had any head coaching experience till the Saints job. Sure, they hit a HR by hiring him... but you can't fault a team for hiring a HC without HC coaching experience, then say they should have hired somebody who also didn't have HC experience when he was hired.
But the original post is saying that Kubiak is bad because he "takes the foot off the pedal" when the team is winning. But you say that teams shouldn't be aggressive when they're winning. Which is it?
so passing on 3rd down to ice a game instead of running is aggressive? FOH. it was boneheaded play and terrible read by the qb. kam ran to the line of scrimmage and the qb just ignored him and ran the play.. the fact that kubiak said schaub wasnt allowed to audible speks volumes. either he is covering up for his qbs inability to read defenses or he truly doesn tallow schaub to audible which is a wtf in itself. both these guys are liabilities and need to go..
I think people confuse lack of execution with "being conservative, bad play-calls, etc.", and he gets some unfair criticism. This offense is not bad... but it certainly could be better. I don't like some of his lack of in-game adjustments. I've seen too many games where the offense looks like gangbusters on the opening drive or first half... only to have several series in a row where the offense looks stagnant. Likewise, once the offense opens things up and finds a weak spot... I see Kubiak often trying to "mix things up" rather than exploit the hell out of matchup advantages or make teams pay for blitzing. I don't see things as simple as "get rid of the coach and everything gets better". Any new coach likely throws out all the existing offensive structure in favor of "his" system, and that includes the ZBS (which marginalizes Myers and his big contract), and likely diminishes Foster's effectiveness (the system certainly maximizes his vision/strengths).
And you think getting a new qb wouldn't do the same??...it's like a double edge sword...the qb has to adjust to the new kubiak "system" if we decide to get another qb..I'm just saying if I had a choice I would get another coach..
Its a pretty damn QB friendly system. If a QB can't do well in this system, he's not going to do much in any other system (reflective of all the "failed" QB's that have gone through Kubiak's system who failed to succeed elsewhere as well... Carr, Jake Plummer, Brian Griese). I'm fine with exploring options for a new QB if the team can't find playoff success... but I also trust Kubiak's ability to incorporate a new QB into his system.
