Getting best available and then a good Qb has worked for teams that are now in the playoffs(and have been) It also leaves the option of trading down( maybe just a couple of spots) and still getting what is desired, but with an extra pick or so.
You sure now Sammy? Sorry it wasn't a " what about INSERT QB here thread?" I was just trying to see what other qb's people thought would be in the 2nd round( worth a chance) and who would be worth the a later 1st round pick( which might not even be that far down from #1 if traded)
QBs taken in the 2nd. 2013: Geno Smith 2012: Brock Osweiler 2011: Andy Dalton, Colin Kaepernick 2010: Jimmy Clausen 2009: Pat White 2008: Brian Brohm, Chad Henne 2007: Kevin Kolb, John Beck, Drew Stanton 2006: Kellen Clemens, Tarvaris Jackson 2005: (none taken) 2004: (none taken) (Matt Schaub next QB taken in the 3rd) 2003: (none taken) 2002: (none taken) 2001: Drew Brees, Quincy Carter, Marques Tuiasosopo 2000: (none taken) 1999: Shaun King 1998: Charlie Batch 1997: Jake Plummer 1996: Tony Banks 1995: Todd Collin, Kordell Stewart So yeah, a couple of good players. But a whole lot of nothing aside from that. Interesting that Drew Brees draft was the only one where a QB was taken in the 2nd round in a 6 year span. Fact is that the success rate on a QB isn't all that great regardless of where you draft. BUT, for any given round, the deeper you go in the draft, the lower that success rate becomes. It's possible to get a good QB later on. But it's foolish to assume that if you pass up a good one early that you can just get another good one later on. Sometimes you can, but a lot of the time you can't.
