Saw a link to this on another board. I think some here would be interested in this: http://www.nbaplaycharting.com/blog/?gclid=CKOIzcuskJYCFRxNagodjS3JEg [rquoter] Are you an NBA fan who would like to make some more money? We are looking for people to help us chart NBA games. We provide the games and the interface to log the plays. Get Paid up to 35.00 USD per game to chart games from our video. Basic Basketball Statistics cover the Offensive actions, but aside from rebounds, blocks and steals, we never know anything about the Defensive side of the ball. What you will be doing is watching the games (through the supplied video) and then Inputting the following Defensive information. Who was guarding the player who took the shot or made the offensive action? Did he switch on to him? What type of defense was it - was it man, a double or zone? How effective would you rate this defensive players defense (scale of 0-4) That is all we are charting. Our user friendly software makes charting the games a breeze. Work on your own time, knowledge of Basketball a must, however when you are charting the games, support will be available via instant messenger to answer any questions you have about specific plays or possessions. This is especially useful as you first start working as an editor, after a few games though you should be able to pick up the process quite quickly and be well on your way. Also note that while you will be paid while you are learning the ins and outs doing your first few games. [/rquoter] Sounds like a sweet deal to me! Edit: Note, according to their FAQ, that this is for the 07/08 season.
im suspicious... getting paid to watch basketball just seems to good to be true. if anyone does this, let me know how it is.
Also, since they are farming this out, I'm curious if there's going to be someone who comes back and checks the facts later. Mischievous fans could really slant the numbers.
That's a good point. Perhaps they'll assign games to more than one person to ensure things stay more or less legit.
I applied. The worst that could happen is that I watch the games and never get paid. Oh well. I like breaking down games anyway.
That's only like $14.00/hr and you can't enjoy the game because you will be too busy trying to write stuff down. I think this might be good for an aspiring coach or such but if you just want to be a casual fan who enjoys the every day game I think it might take away from the entertainment value.
I think there is a large middle ground between "casual fan" and "aspiring coach" that this job would appeal to.
Hmm...might give it a try. Sounds interesting and to be real, as a Rockets fan, tracking Battier/Artest/Hayes wouldn't necessarily be hard work (and it would be pretty interesting).
I'm really having problems with the "legit-ness" though...there's only two types of people who would have enough of an interest to spoon out this kind of money for these stats...sports teams and sports media. There's no way it's a franchise behind this. Unless it's the Bobcats and they've REALLY hit rock bottom and started using freeware/internet labor. Or it's a sports media outlet...in which case they should be much more vocal about themselves and who they are. Otherwise, I just don't see it...maybe I'm missing something but this does seem pretty sketchy.
As long as I didnt have to chart any Rockets games, I wouldnt care if I miss too much of the ones I would have to chart.
What would you be "missing" by charting the game? It seems to me you'd miss far less of what's going on in the game if you are forcing yourself to pay attention to all the details.
