Our Rockets need to shape up RIGHT NOW because their windown for being top 2 in the SouthWest and having good homecourt advantage in the playoffs is opening up.

The Mavs are 0-3 and just lost Josh Howard. The extent of the injury is unknown, but he was wearing a walking boot when leaving the arena - never good.

If he misses a good 10-15 games, the Mavs are not going to match last season's success.

We had to hope for a slip-up from San Antonio or Dallas, and we're getting it. These guys better not waste the opportunity.

I hope Bonzi is working hard on coming back strong, and T-Mac needs to she this thing off. As we said earlier, we NEED a good start to be near the top, and right now this team has no excuses but poor play. We're about to see what these guys are made of because you KNOW they are keepi9ng an eye on their SouthWest rivals.

    yes, come Rockets

this is also the first thought when i heard the news that Josh Howard got injured.

God bless his healthy, but we need to catch up with the spurs right now. Hornets won't be on the top soon. We should grasp the opportunity to dominate the southwest division.

i'm a hater.. so i'm kinda glad.. even though i should work on that trait... anyhow.

back the the point.. i'm glad he got hurt after all the flagrants he has and that throwdown on yao.. he doesn't care about anyone elses health and he deserves this.. in a karma standpoint..

but good for the rockets. i only wish cuban were into his team as much as he was last yr.. then it'd be sweeter.

I believe the league made rules restricting where owners can sit and their involvement in the games? Correct me if I'm wrong but that's why we might not see Cuban storming on the courts that much on a ref call or anything.

This is the time to do it. Forget the annual normal slow start to the season trend. IF they find themselves down too much they might not get back into it (ex: Houston Astros). Hopefully Bonzi works himself into shape and keeps his head on straight. And hope of all hopes McGrady can shake those :( blues away and get back to 'feeling himself'.

i'm not really worried about bonz and mac - they will get fit, find their touch and start playing better. I'm most worried about guarding big and talented opponent PFs, i.e. Dirk, Duncan, Garnett etc. Dirk looked jittery and not really into the game in our season opener - i think once he gets comfortable, he will be able to score at will, just like Yao. Maybe we are just conceding this weakness, and hope to make up for it in other areas, i don't know...

To me, the key to Rocket's success lies in Wells and Snyder. They are good offensive players that we didn't have the luxury to have last season. T-Mac can struggle, but if these guys elevate their games up one notch, we are still a very hard team to beat while we wait for T-Mac to be himself.

We also need to integrate Novak and KillBill in the regular rotation as soon as possible, sort of speeding up the rookie's learning curve.

Let's hope the Mavs lose at least 2 more in a row to go down 0-5. Their next 2 games are on the road back-to-back against the Clippers and Suns so it's got a good chance of happening. Hopefully that would affect their psyche for the entire season.

That Mavs are struggling badly means we need to put our lopsided win over Dallas in some perspective.

Or in other words, did Jason Terry stink on Saturday because he just had a bad night or he was taken completely out of the game by Rafer's newly found suffocating defense?

Calm down, its only 3 games into the season. 79 games left is a lot of games to play. Dallas is unlikely to keep playing like this and so are the other top teams that are struggling. In about 2-3 weeks, the standings will look completely different than from today.

Why is everyone making this seem like a "OMG it's over, we're finished!" thread.

This thread is about urgency. This thread is about being opportunistic. I don't like to wish any sort of injuries on players, but no one was lending us a shoulder when we were weeping last season.

We need to grab this chance by the balls. The Mavs could very well go down 0-5, especially since Josh Howard is NOT making the trip. Clippers and Suns will take it to the Mavs.

After that, it's hard to recover mentally. Also, let's see how long Howard will stay out. He's their second best player.

Everyone talks about the Mavs depth, but I'd like to see them make up for losing their best defensive, and second best offensive player.

Someone needs to smack this horse's ass and get this bandwagon rollin'.

We should spend less time worrying about the Mavs and Spurs and more time focusing on the Rockets. I'd prefer they were 2-1 then 1-2 right now. I think they should have won the NOK game.

But all 3 teams we've played so far have been good/above average teams. The Hornets will be in playoff contention this year. So will the Jazz, if they can stay healthy. Despite the slow start, the Mavs are still championship caliber, when healthy.

Memphis, Milwaukee, NYC. Those should be 3 wins. If Miami is still struggling, that can be a win, too, which would put us on a 4 game winning streak going into San Antonio.

I think this team is capable of putting together multiple long winning streaks. The key is to cut down on losing streaks. We can't afford to have a 3 game losing streak, basically ever. And we need to try and follow-up every loss with a win.

3-5 game winning streaks. Minimize losses to only 1 game at a time. Forget how the Spurs, Mavs, Hornets, Lakers or anyone else is doing. If we can do the above, we'll be okay.

True, It also sounds like Head might be a player that we need to step up like he did in the Mavs game. If Tmac isn't himself then ALL of the other players need to elevate their game and we will be fine. I think Tmac will try to more of a playmaker than scorer instead of half and half. Teams will still worry about him because he is Tmac.

settle down people, it's a loooong season. Most veterans believe the season starts after the ASG, just ask Wells.

And its the teams that take care of business before and after the ASG that progress in the playoffs.

I can see why we should get it together, but let the Mavs go down the toilet.
