Did anyone else hear George Gervin on NBA Matchup? He was asked by the host if Tim Duncan was the best power forward in the history of the NBA. Gervin's response was that he thought Moses Malone was-- even though he played more 5 than 4. I was kind of surprised.... Wouldn't you like to have Moses playing the 4 beside Yao Ming....
Is this a trick question? Like I've said before, having a HOF big man play alongside Yao wouldn't suck. Unless you mean Moses Malone right now, which probably wouldn't help our interior quickness all that much.
The real point of the thread was to point up that Gervin thought that Malone was better than Duncan. The stuff about Malone alongside Yao was just an afterthought...
Moses Malone was clearly a greater player than Duncan. But I think most would consider him to be a face-up center, while Duncan is considered a low post power forward. Whether that really makes sense or not isn't up to me to decide, but that seems to be the perception. The only areas of the game where Duncan is better is shot-blocking/all-around defense and passing. Moses was a better rebounder (especially offensive rebounding), scorer, and FT shooter than Duncan will probably ever be. I still think Mo's the most underrated center of all time. I'd probably rank him just outside of the top five all-time, behind Shaq and Dream.
Doesn't matter. After the first 5 minutes of a game, there'd be a pool of sweat coating the entire lane. No fool would want to drive into that. We can concentrate solely on perimeter defense.
so if Karas played next to Yao and JVG was replaced by Dr. Gori would the thread belong in the GARM, NBA Dish, or Hangout?
How could you not stick in GWB buying the team and then pondering about the thread's D&D credentials. You're slipping man.
