I´m really looking forward to Saturday´s match, not only because England will suffer yet another painful defeat.

Like the English fans use to point out a lot, England can win battles on German ground, but not on the football pitch ;)

The English tabloids are fun to read. I know we have similar newspapers in German, but the English Yellow Press is the worst by far. I can´t understand the people who read and believe the stuff they write. When I vistited Britain last month, they Sun had this Helen girl from Big Brother on the front page for SEVEN straight days. Nuff said!

But back to footbal. I´m sure Germany will win, 2-0. I mean it´s Germany against England!

You might be right Jovi. It's funny but I heard an English assistant call the Germans arrogant. That might be true, but I guess England aren't arrogant? Those "We invented the game" and "We deserve to win just because we are England" quotes never get old. By the way, the US have a big(ok, maybe not as big) qualifier against Honduras on Saturday. All of us in the states can catch the game on ESPN2 at 9:00am central time.

England and Germany will be a good matchup. I think Germany will win it 2-1.

Caddman - Watching USA play soccer is the biggest joke. I laugh at the way USA plays. They SUCK!

A very en vogue sentiment. Sure, the US isn't on a par with the world powers, but their football has come a very long way in a few short years. They've leapfrogged Mexico, and getting rid of Steve Sampson was only one of many great moves they have made since the last World Cup. The latest batch of youngsters are the most promising players I can remember seeing from the US ever. Ante Razov, Josh Wolff... simply electric.

That said, come on England :p :D

Yeah they came a long way to what they were. But still, they suck. :)

Fox Sports World, for Time Warner Digital Cable, often times shows taped versions of international matches... I sure hope they show Eng vs Ger...

England is my favorite team, but I think they'd be lucky to pull off a draw...

What's the status on Gerrard? Is he out?

Beckham needs to step up in this match to get the England offense going...

USA sucks at football!!??? We'll kick all your butts in football!!! Strap 'em on and let's go!!!

Of course soccer is a whole other matter, entirely! :) But who the hell cares if we win at that. Ok, Europe..we'll give you guys soccer. Go have fun with it! We'll be busy dominating the rest of the sporting world.

Having scheduled two friendlies at the time the World Cup relegation round will be held, the English called the Germans arrogant for completely ruling out the possibility of not winning the group. lol!

Madmax: Do you mean dominating the sports world as far as doping is concerned? If the league, federations and rules would only be half as accurate as the Europeans, I guess you would take a nice slide in the medal table...

I'm going to be at the Honduras game Saturday. A local real estate agent has a revolting tradition of planting plastic American flags on everyone's lawn in my neighborhood every 4th of July (overnight, without asking), complete with her name. I hate it because it's crass commercial exploitation of patriotism. I yanked the last two flags out of my lawn and put them on a shelf. Now I think I have a use for them.

Who is gonna control Owen? You got no answer. He'll break away for two goals. The Huns are going downtown to Chinatown.

England beats Germany 2-1. Only the second time the Huns have lost at home and the first time in 28 years.

And what is up with the totally unsubstantiated 'doping' comment? It was the Eastern bloc Hun that invented doping. And how many sports do the Hun or the Frogs's dominate? NONE.

When was the last time England won a battle on German ground?

In WWII, they kicked the German's butt plenty at sea. But on land, they were forced to retreat at Dunkirk and then only returned with a big contingent of Americans. And even then, the Russians were in the process of conquering Berlin when the US/British were reaching the German border.

WWI was fought entirely outside of Germany and the Germans never suffered any decisive defeats in the entire war (except, of course, at sea, where the British routinely mopped the floor with them).

Besides that I can't think of any signifcant battles the 2 countries have had (even if you look at pre-Germany Prussia and Austria-Hungary and the Holy Roman Empire). In short, I don't think the English have ever won anything of consequence on German soil.

But, was someone saying something about soccer?

I don't think either of these teams could keep up with the Dallas Burn. :D

But seriously, I love how there are so many teams in soccer. I love the speculation of it. Could Team Brazil beat Manchester United? Would they ever play? How about Arsenal versus France? I think it would be interesting.

That's not really historically accurate. The Russians taking Berlin was a political decision, not a timing issue. The US could have driven into Berlin if given the political go ahead. Also, not that I'm a big supporter of the British Army, but Dunkirk was a result of the Frogs and Belgians quitting early in face of the German advance, not a lack of fighting spirit.

Setanta Sports hold the rights to tomorrow's England/Germany match. You might be able to catch it at one of the british pubs in town. Richmond Arms maybe.

And the US don't suck, they've actually made great strides since the debacle at France '98. But they'll have to do well in a world cup before anyone takes them seriously.

And if Arsenal played France, who would Henry, Viera, Pires, and Wiltord play for?
