Germany could be the source of a great back up for Mobley?

I was very impressed with a couple of comparitave unknowns playing for Germany. Was anyone else impressed? Could the Rox use any of the German talent? It looks like Oscar T. is not quite upto the job, judging by his recent performance. What do you think? If not, then who do you think might fill the spot?

Did you really just determine Oscar Torres capabilities as a backup shooting guard for the Rockets this season off of one game with a completely different team playing for a different country in the offseason?

I'm not a huge Torres fan, but I have to guess he would look a lot better against those CBA guards.

Gater:- Yes you are right, lets see how they do!
I'm not againgst Torres, infact I had great hopes for him, he just never seemed to blossom. If we are going to reduce the starting Guards minutes ( so that they can last out for the Playoffs and also we need to play so many scorers this season). We need a quality backup for Mobley, not just a bit player, but one with good defence and the ability to score. Torres may be this player, but IMHO he hasn't shown it yet!

Yetti - How about that tall, blonde-haired guy with the goatee? ;)

    Here's the stats:

I just didn't see enough to impress me. How about you? I think you were talking about Nikagbatse and Garris. Both are athletic and quick but a little to short to slide over for spot minutes at SF like OT does.

Not to mention, we have plenty of scoring punch and could use some lock down D at the 2. The US scoring came from Pierce (SF) & Finley (SG).

Nino and Misan these were the two that impressed me the most! I don't think that this year there will be any need for a guard to play Small Forward! With Rice and Nachbar playing the position and Thomas and Griffin able to drop down,we need a'hot'back up for mobley, a type of player that could start if needed. Last season, especially in the second half, Torres hardly played like he belonged. If he is the one signed, then I hope he is more into the game this season.

    Yetti -

    Some points to consider:

    1) Rice is old and has a recent history of injury. I have been anti-Rice from Day 1 but would enjoy the humble pie if he has a great season. But I'm not betting the farm that he will.

    2) Nachbar is unproven. Even if he (and Rice) score a lot this season, in the long run a defensive 2/3 coming off of the bench would be a huge plus.

    3) It has yet to be determined how much "small ball" RT is going to play. Be it Rice, Boki, an MCE player, Garris or Nikagbatse - if Rudy uses this lineup there goes minutes for these players.

I didn't really want to beat a dead horse, but if you look at the Rocks current team, it is very young. IMHO, the need is for a proven veteran (as opposd to Garris or Nikagbatse). If a vet can not be obtained this season, it is possible (even likely) that Collier, Morris, and Torres will not be around for the 2003 season.

Just my opinion, but I think the best answer lies in a vet for the MCE either this summer or next.
