    Peja leads Yugoslavia past Germany
(Aug 17) BRAUNSCHWEIG, Germany (AP) - Peja Stojakovic scored 26 points Saturday as Yugoslavia needed two overtimes to edge Dirk Nowitzki-led Germany 88-87 at the SuperCup, a warmup for the World Championships.

Nowitzki, the Dallas Mavericks forward, had 25 points and nailed a three-pointer with 2.2 seconds to send the game into its first overtime.

Yugoslavia won the round-robin event, with both teams boasting 2-1 records.

Their coach wasn't pleased with the physical condition of his players, which includes several others from the NBA in addition to Stojakovic, a Sacramento King.

``We're going to have to work on that,'' said Svetislav Pesic,

His team is the defending champions at the world championships, which starts in two weeks in Indianapolis.

Lithuania also beat New Zealand 85-75 to finish third, with both having 1-2 records.

The 5,634 spectators gave the German team a standing ovation after the near upset of Europe's dominant team.

You're definitely right. I saw part of the game and Dirk single-handedly kept Germany in the game, clearly outperforming guys like Stojakovic in clutch time...with about 2 or 3 seconds to go, Dirk just took the ball in the own half, went up to the top of the key and drained the 3-pointer like it was nothing. He DID miss some shots during overtime, but I think he was just tired - after all, he had surgery during the offseason and was out of shape.
