where am i? http://www.dw-world.de/english/0,3367,1432_A_932647_1_A,00.html Politicians call for children's vote A group of cross-party politicians in the German Bundestag has called for the introduction of a children's vote. With the "voting right from birth", parents should be able to vote on behalf of their children. The group said their aim was to attract more attention to children's issues: "It is unfair that more than 5 percent of Germany's citizens cannot vote". The group's draft petition which was presented on Thursday calls for the possibility for parents to vote in the name of their children until they reach the age of 18 and that parents should talk to their children about election decisions as soon as they reach an appropriate age. Critics say these propositions are naive. "Many parents have a completely different opinion in politics than their children", Irmingard Schewe-Gerigk from the Greens said.
Talk about way, way out there. I guess if I want to have more influence on the political process, I should go out and overpopulate.
That's weird. Rewarding people with more political clout because they're fertile is pretty silly. I agree that helping children see the value of politics is important, though.
Hell, they really ARE worried about their birthrate. Reward the politically active by giving them an extra vote for each child... uh, I guess that might work for a demented few. Crazy.
That was probably suggested by a group of 3 or 4 wackos out of 600 representatives. I just notice that MadMax keeps pulling up stories to make Europeans look stupid. Maybe he should come visit to overcome his prejudice.
not at all, Sir Jackie..you're one of my favorite posters here! this was just on drudgereport...i don't care if the germans, the americans or the martians proposed this...i'd call it dumb. i agree entirely that it was probably proposed by a few wackjobs...in no way do i mean this to be representative for all of Germany..no way at all.
Unfortunately something similar is in the EU Constitution. It's some lame sounding statement that says "children will be free to speak their minds" or something.
Then I apologize sincerely ...I felt like I had to defend my home country a bit (although I am in Brazil right now which definitely has hotter women and better weather!).
