This thread may be pointless, but I found this really interesting, and I figured some of you may as well. First of all, Gerald Wallace is only 6-7.. Typical SG-SF height. When has a player at his position ever averaged such a number in rebounds? I wonder if he can keep it up. Some might say, well maybe the balls are bouncing his way.. I thought about that too, so I took a look at his numbers this season... I know it's only been 6 games, but he's put up some pretty outstanding rebounding numbers (20, 18, 15).. He averaged only 7.8 Rebounds per game last year... Behind him for the Bobcats is Tyson Chandler who's averaging only 7.7 rebounds this season which is under his career avg of 9.0 I don't expect a whole lot of discussion. I just found this interesting. Could be something to keep an eye on. Maybe I'm just a nerd when it comes to little things like this.
"Gerald Wallace needs to brush up on his NBA history" Sincerely, Sure he might be one inch taller at 6'8" but Rodman is the best rebounder in NBA history since 1990
That game against the Nets is pretty studly. 50% FG%, shooting 10-13 FTs while grabbing 20 boards? For a SG/SF?
If I'm not wrong, he is playing PF this season. The Bobcats are playing the small ball with him at PF and Chandler at C. Still pretty impressive though. He is one of my fave players in the league because of his athleticism. I used to follow him all the way back to his highschool years, mainly via nbadraft.net. They compared him to Dominike Wilkins back then.
I think Wallace starts at Power forward for them. It's still amazing that he's getting that many boards considering his size. He leaves everything on the court when he plays. He just needs to be careful because the aggression of his play has caused him to get a few concussions. He bangs in the post with guys who outweigh him by 20-30 lbs.
wallace is averaging so many rebounds because his team sucks and cant score buckets. its like dj augustin, diaw, and gerald wallace the only offense on that team period.
He used to be primarily a small forward, and I'm sure he still gets minutes there, but last season they started him at the 4. I guess him and Diaw are basically interchangeable at the 3 and 4 as starters.
DJ Augustin is the best offensive guy on the Bobcats and he's averaging something like 20 mins per game. Thats what happens if you give a young talent to Larry Brown's hands.
It's because Emeka Okafor is gone. This is not uncommon for Gerald Wallace. Shawn Marion a very similar player averaged over 11 rpg one season and almost 12 rpg the next season back in his Phoenix days. I could see Wallace finishing the season averaging about 11-12 rpg.
True, his fg% is pretty bad. But that has nothing to do with his rebounding. Most of the boards he collected were DEFENSIVE. A better excuse to dismiss his achievement might be: "He stole rebounds from his teammates."
