Lynch demands trade, Wizards first choice Added: 20th August, 2002 Steve Wyche of the Washington Post reports that Hornets guard George Lynch is unhappy with management's reluctance to give him a contract extension and he wants to be traded to the Washington Wizards. "I have family there, I played high school ball in that area [Flint Hill], I have a lot of ties to the Washington, D.C., area," Lynch, 31, said in a phone interview yesterday. "Plus, I'll play for Michael Jordan. I know he would appreciate a guy like me." Sources indicate that both teams have taken part in trade talks but no deals have been reached. But with Washington hoping for enough cap room to sign a maximum free agent contract in the offseason next year - holding out on a Richard Hamilton extension in the process - it is unknown if the team would extend on Lynch's current contract which runs through season 2003 if acquired. Hornets Vice President of Basketball Operations Bob Bass acknowledged that Lynch has indicated a desire to be traded. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, there are certain problems. Like he wants an extension, and he prefers the Wiz. Personally, I don't think there's ANY way the Wiz would get him. Here's their depth chart: White/Haywood/Etan Thomas Popeye/Kwame/Etan Thomas Jared Jeffries/MICHEAL JORDAN/Bobby Simmons Rip Hamilton/Micheal Jordan Lue/Whitney/Dixon They're loaded at the 2/3. EVEN if Jordan doesn't come back. I don't know about you guys, but this is one bench player I'm comfortable handing an extension to. You know he's one of the hardest workers, best deefnders in the league. Good rebounder. Can play the 2, 3, and small 4's. Nothing but hard work and D from this guy. If we could unload T-Mo, and forget about Torres, I think we can get him and sign him to a fair extension. Maybe 5 years @ $20M? He's not a Shandon-type 3 either. He's big enough to play at the 3 and 2. What do you guys think? Wouldn't the Hornets like to have KT to team with Magloire to backup the aging Campbell/Brown duo? They're loaded everywhere else. Thoughts?
i don't like george lynch. He has a broke jumper. And we can get some body who a betetr shooter, and defrender in due time.........wait a minute, he said he wants to go to washington, why did you say he could be a rocket.not gonna happen buddy.
He's not going to Washington, because they're loaded at the 2/3, and won't offer anything the Hornets want. Also, right now, Offense isn't what we need. What we need is what he brings. Hard work and defense. That's what we lack.
if we didnt have so many fowards i would have like to have lynch. if only he was an inch or two shorter he could be our backup 2 guard.
You forgot Larry Hughes and Hubert Davis. Nothing would surprise me with the Wizards at this point. They should try to trade Lue for Lynch. I don't even know who Charlotte's backup point guard is. The Wizards have 15 serviceable NBA players on their roster right now. It seems wasteful to have 3 players that other teams could use on the IR. They should be proposing trades all over the place. Maybe while they're at it, they can trade Juan Dixon back for Courtney Alexander too... ...morons. That trade will come back to haunt them, kind of like the Chris Webber trade...the Rasheed Wallace trade...the Ben Wallace trade...I'll just stop here. In my opinion they're the only team that can even compete with the Los Angeles Clippers for most poorly managed organization in the NBA.
I've always liked him, but he's a 3/4, not a 2/3. I just can't see that guy playing the 2. Even if he could, the Rockets have that spot locked up with Francis and Mobley. I would've liked to have had Lynch any of the past 3-4 years.
It's pretty bold of him to not only ask for a trade but to name his destination. He's not a player with a lot of leverage. I think the chance that he actually gets what he wants is close to zero. Which brings me to my next point: why would we want a guy who would crap out on his team and ask to be traded to the Wizards? He's a bit lacking in the loyalty department.
Lynch can't play the two so it solves no problem for us and, in honesty, I don't see him really improving us at all. Unless we could get rid of Rice in the deal, he does nothing but crowd an already crowded spot at the 3. If we are going to get another player, it needs to be a guy who plays the 2 as his primary position and the 3 secondarily. Voshon Leonard was not a bad choice, but, personally, I think we need a defensive stopper for the 2/3 swingman coming off the bench.
Lynch is a very capable rebounder, defender, and a decent scorer when called upon. But Freak is correct, he's a 3/4 combo, not a 2/3. I think he'd help most teams, but I don't really see a fit here. He'd do well with Washington I think. He's exactly the type of guy MJ covets, and Wash. needs some toughness.
Aside from the rebounding that he would bring, I do not see how he helps us that much. Voshon Leonard is a much better choice, unless OT really get his act together during preseason.
I qwould love to have Doug Christie. He is a very talented defensive player-isn't he a 3 though?? We need a primary shooting guard- like Jeff said - we are already crowded at the 3.
No, he's a guard, but can play some 3. He used to play fancy offense somewhat like Jason Williams. Then he realized that kind of game was useless and remade himself as a defensive specialist. Smart guy. But I must admit he has lost some of his offensive skills in the process.
If that didn't leave us with NO shooting off the bench, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Christie is exactly the right type of playe for the 2/3 spot.
Lynch sucks. He is the least loyal player in the NBA. When he was with the Grizzlies up here in vancouver, he said that he couldn't find anywhere to go grocery shopping...what a b*tch...how the hell do you think the other 2 million+ people in vancouver do it? Now he wants to go to washington cuz he has family there...what a little baby. I mean...if you miss your mom, go there during the offseason.
I thought Lynch played the 2 lots in Philly? Anyways, I doubt the Kings do that. They have Stojakovic, Gerald Wallace, and Turkoglu all at the 3. Turkoglu can play the 2, but I think they really prefer Christie's defensive abilities. Otherwise, it's an excellent trade. Christie played some Point in Toronto. He'd be an excellent addition to our bench. A 1/2/3 guy who plays D, can create for others, and score some. Right now though, the Kings don't need to improve anywhere. They're very talented and deep. Their bench consists of: Keon Clark Scot Pollard Gerald Wallace Hedo Turkoglu Bobby Jackson That's better than a few teams in the East, lol.
Agree. But Rice would be an upgrade for them. They needed badly some guy besides Bibby to take the big shot at crunch time. Rice can do that. Maybe we can throw in KT for Wallace to sweeten the deal. KT'd be a good backup for CWebb and can play the 3. Wallace would be a decent shooter off the bench for us.
