Why not? The guy has all the physical tools necessary - 34inch standing vertical He's a good defender with genuine size (6'2.5 and 6'9 wingspan ) He can shoot the basketball The 2 real knocks on him are: 1) that he can't "initiate the offense" - ie, he's not a "pure point". 2) the level of competition he played against. Fair points, but the guy put up the key indicators which generally show a player can make the transition - averaging 1.8 steals and 6.8 rpg. Shot over 50% from the field, over 80 from the stripe and 45 from the (college) 3. His 4.3apg to 2.9tpg isn't great - but he's not a dreadful ball-handler, just got into trouble forcing the issue as his teams primary scorer. I've always thought guys that can shoot, play defense, and dribble the basketball are worth a flyer in the 2nd. He might be this years Ramon Sessions. He'd be a darn sight better than some of the crud the draft sites have us taking in the second round anyway...
I like him too. He also had one of the fastest sprint times of 3.07. He's a legit 6'1+ w/out shoes. Plus, he got to the line this year more than any other PG.
First time I ever heard someone say that as a compliment for an NBA player. He had a 32.4 PER playing for IUPUI, but his steals are way below Chalmers' (3.2 to 2.0 per 40 min for Hill) and his A/TO ratio is low at 1.46. He had great rebound rates for a guard though which does suggest he could be a good athlete. I'm just still not sold on the fact that anyone we select in the late second round would be able to crack our 15-man roster. The smart thing for Morey to do remains what he's been doing--take fliers on internationals that don't have to come over immediately and see how they progress over the next 2-4 years. If we take an American we'd basically have to either sign him before training camp or cut him. For us to use the NBDL, that player would have to be on our 15-man roster. It makes me wish the NBA could increase their roster sizes to 16-17 with the extra spots beyond 15 being provisional "farm system" spots. Oh well.
"First time I ever heard someone say that as a compliment for an NBA player." haha - Hill is 6'1.25 which is a compliment when you are almost 3 inches taller than Brooks and over two inches taller than Jackson our current backup PGs.
George Hill is an exceptionally efficient player. And efficiency off the bench is exactly what we need. He will never become a starter or a team's main ball handler, but we just need him to do his job and put up some assists and rebounds. I'd love to have Hill player in the DLeague for us. The idea is to do the trades as suggested in my signiture, to trade up using more players than what we get back. That way we'll have more than enough room for new players, just like what Boston and Danny Ainge did last off-season!! Please do what Boston did last off-season!
Love the sig W22!! Chalmers is also a good prospect - but he'll go 1st round. We CAN send Hill overseas right? Our PG stocks are kind of thin if Francis is done (I think he's not) because Bjax is just an expiring waiting to be traded (from all the talk we're hearing anyway...)
So I guess he'll be gone by our second round pick then? That's a shame because I'm thinking he's an absolute LOCK to 'make it' in the NBA. Now I've got to somehow hope we end up buying an early second round pick...
