I wanted to start a thread that I think everyone should be able to get behind. Regardless of my view on the Iraq War, I think General Petraeus has done an incredible job as commanding General in Iraq. To make a football analogy, he came in three touchdowns down with time running out. He has at least gotten it into overtime. When he was put in charge, we had no military direction, the violence in Iraq was terrible and getting worse, and Iraqis weren't signing up for the military or police. These charts show the job that he's done.

Now it's really disappointing that the diplomats haven't done much of their job, and this maybe a hollow victory, but the job that General Petraeus has done is really admirable. He might be our most successful General ever for Police Action.

I want to second your sentiment.

Given time, the political situation in Iraq will change for the better. :)

The man literally wrote the book on counter insurgency. He is a living legend.

Let's not forget moveon.org shamefully insulting him, and the New York Times gleefully running the ad.

Amazing turnaround by General Petraeus -- lets hope it holds, but things look good so far.

Congratulations to a General in league with the best we have ever had in history!...I thank we have this type of military leadership and thank his direction for the better...

It is telling of the democrats and those on the left to belittle the military the way it does and especially to military leadership when they owe everything to those who serve...

They care not for their cause or their calling. They would rather insult and joke about what motivates those to serve in the first place...May they continue to insult and joke when General Patraeus is here to lead the fight in protecting that right...

Isn't it great how the right toss out this kinda *****, regardless of actual fact?

I guess if that is your best card you lead with it.

    Stay the course.

yeah...making progress...now lets leave  put aside your thoughts of the war and think with an unbiased brain, if you can

but petraeus has done a great job. sad that so many wanted him to fail and vilified him before he even got a fair shake. Just shows the lack of reality and objectiveness that many politicians (or all) approach matters on

Just think if we had him in from the beginning.

    Oh, and never appointed Rumsfeld.

I love how the liberals' praise is missing. Further proof that they simply do not support the troops. It's clear as day. Pathetic.

And the press is liberal. Talking points repeated often enough must be true!!!

BTW if I was in the Army I would not be embracing "the support" conservatives are giving.

You'd prefer the "vote for the war but not the funding" approach of the liberals, I'd assume

W must be a liberal, since he would veto any war funding bill with a deadline to bring home the troops.

Senate Republicans would also fillibuster the above war funding bill, so they must be liberal too.

Your arguments are two faced. It is not about the troops; it is about supporting the President in his cluster*****ed war.

Masterful job by Patraeus... especially knowing how bad things were when they handed him the ball and said "Fix it". If only Rumsfeld had not been involved in any way, shape, or form. Or we hadn't gone in to begin with.
