At least it was just one location that resulted in a problem. Certainly not surprising that it happens.
I worked as a Tech at best buy for over 5 years going back during high school and college. Everything they want you to do involves margin. It was how much you could sell on top of the work that was done. They wanted you to get the most out of everything done that you could because all the labor is pure margin after paying the employees.
I still use my old laptop I bought from CompUSA in Westheimer near the Galleria in 2005. Got it for cheap. Great deal. However the employee did try to scam me into purchasing all these other schett along with the laptop.
What is even more telling IMO is the dumbass DM puts out some stupid statement and did not terminate the persons involved when it was obvious dishonesty involved. That tells me everything I need to know about their operation right there. I seriously doubt any real action was taken. I would guess they condone misdiagnosing to make money. I was actually pleasantly surprised that the smaller shops were honest about it.
How do you know the person wasn't terminated? There's no way they make any kind of announcement about firing a low-level employee.
The days of repairing home electronics are just about done. TVS will be the last hold out. Other than that, something not working is just an excuse to buy a newer model.
Have you tried to price the cost of repairing a TV? If your warranty expires, then it probably costs more to repair the tv than its worth.
