Eeven the Cheap Spots are $1.83 Anyone know where the cheap gas is? Why are the prices back up again . . . . .sheesh They go down just enough to tease you just enough for about a week then start the steady almost imperceptably slow increase until BOOM it is a $1.83 Rocket River I need an electric car badly
it gets hotter, more people start using their cars, the emission stuff gets stricter, less supply its still cold and rainy though
I don't consider myself to be that old compared to some of the other regulars here (ahem, who will remain nameless ) and I still remember when the prices of gas were around a dollar and the 93 octane rating was like a $1.10 to $1.15 range. That only seemed like 6 years ago or so. Now, I have serious doubts that we will ever see gas prices get that low again. We might as well walk around, grabbing our ankles but what can we do about it? That is the thing that sucks the most. They have you over a barrel.
In my town the price has increased also, I think the cheapest around here is $1.89 a gallon. The OPEC chief stated he didn't know why gas/oil prices have skyrocketed when the reserves and stocks around the world are not suffering. I think it's a sham. I with Manny though, I remember several years ago regular unleaded got down to $0.83 a gallon here but alas, we will probably never see it get that low again.
It's funny how you see fewer big SUV's on the road when the gas prices pass the $2.00 mark as they did last year. This year will see record highs. I think the price or regular may hit $2.50 to $2.75 a gallon before summers over.
Oh yeah, my Corolla gets 32/40 mpg so that comes in awfully handy during these times. I guess that is one good thing but the prices still suck.
If you live in Houston, maybe hybirds is not really worth it. Hybrid could save you a lots of money if you live in a crowded city like New York or Tokyo, because you have to stop every few seconds due to the traffic, and hybrid breaks is at their best at situation like that. But in Houston, you can drive all the way home without stopping once you get out of that downtown traffic, so the money you saved on gas doesn't really cover what you spent on the car. A nice import car should do just fine for you. Even my 92 Accord has 26/32 MPG, pretty damn good consider its age.
Unless you have to use I-10, 290 or I-45. Pretty much 59S past the Galleria is the only decent freeway to use during rush hour. I hear 288 S is even pretty bad recently with the building boom in Pearland.
Exactly. A lot of people don't factor in the higher price of the car. It's too bad the auto industry doesn't make their Hybrids more affordable and comparable to similar cars at similar prices.
Civic Hybrid = $20000 Prius Hybrid = $20000 Accord Hybrid = $30000 And even more options: http://www.carlist.com/autonews/2005_hybrids.html Tax rebates are available in some states, as are HOV lane rights (save time and gas? Hmmm....). Now, you tell me - you can get a tax credit covering the purchase of your SUV, and yet you can't for a hybrid?
If I'm not mistaken, they recommend that you replace the battery in hybrids at 100,000 miles and currently that will cost you about $6000.
