Kevin Garnett has been named Defensive Player of the Year for 2007-2008.

KG helped spark an historic win/loss turnaround, anchoring what quickly became one of the league's premier defenses. More information should be available soon, but it was probably a close vote between KG, Marcus Camby and Shane Battier. Apr. 22 - 12:32 pm et

Rofl, KG doesnt play the type of defense Battier plays which is even more harder.

All KG does is rebound well, and block when somebody lucky manages to drive in a hack-up a shot.

Thats DPOY? So I guess shutting down MVP candidates is easier than standing around and grabbing rebounds huh?

It's a nice consolation prize for KG, who leads the best team in the NBA but has no shot at MVP.

It will be a travesty, if people like Bowen and Prince will be voted on the defensive teams and Shane will be left out again.

I'm pretty sure KG could boycott the NBA for a season and still end up winning awards.

3rd place for Battier, and very close to 2nd. I appreciate the recognition.

I'm a homer if I say Battier and i'm a hater if I say anybody but KG so I can't really win. Marcus Camby rebounds well and blocks a ton of shots but i'm sorry, any DPOY candidate (and winner) that plays on the worst defensive team in the NBA should never be deserving.

I'll say that KG's season was noteworthy and DPOY-esque. I suppose it's a nice consolation prize provided he doesn't win MVP. If he wins a second MVP award given his pitiful post season record and history of choke jobs the whole world is going to hell.

    KG deserved it.

That was the easiest award to give out. When a guy shows up and the team goes from worst to first defensively he should get credit. Also, if you watch the Rockets vs. TWolves games over the last 4-5 years you shouldn't have any doubt about how magnificient a defender he is.

Battier got screwed. Camby 2nd? I want whatever they're smoking.

Honest to God, I sometimes think you guys post stuff just to cause me to have a meltdown.

I was thinking what life would be like if you guys traded Kleiza and or Smith along with Nene for Arenas in the offseason. Meltdown?

Can't believe Camby got 2nd place

I mean the guy's numbers are obviously inflated by playing for freaking Denver

But I guess not winning is not winning

I am not surprised, disappointed but the post-season awards saga is always a popularity context with statistics and reputations carry too much weight. Nothing against Garnett, cause he is no doubt a phenomenal defender.... for sure top 10 but this was not his prime year. The awards must be focused on what the players accomplished THIS SEASON. I am being a homer, but it is well deserved. Battier got robbed.

At the very least, he is now universally recognized as a perennial DPOY candidate so he would certainly get 1st defensive squad and have good chances in following years. But man, what more could you ask out of Battier defensively from this season??? He stepped up night in and night out, shutting down Kobe, Durant, the list goes on.

AH, I know I'm preaching to the choir. We all know Battier deserved it, well.... maybe except memphisX or GAY4WHO??.

But I really hate how the NBA brass favors their own teachers pets, (Lebron, CP, KG, Dirk, Manu) when it comes to these awards. They should recognize the on court play of that season. Best defender on best defensive team isn't applicable to DPOY, but the same standard is ubiquitous for MVP voting. Unfair double standard.

Well, they're not the worst defensive team in the NBA...but certainly the worst in the Western Conference playoffs, and would rank in the bottom half of the Eastern bracket too.

    KG deserves it.

At least Shane got some recognition this season whereas he get NIL last season playing basically the same type of hard nose defense!
