Will the Sox consider breaking up their collection of superstars? This core has failed to make the playoffs the last three seasons, despite payrolls that have topped the $100 million mark each season. The Sox must look ahead to the winter of 2004 when Pedro Martinez, Nomar Garciaparra, Derek Lowe and Jason Varitek all reach free agency at once. It seems impossible that a team looking to manage its payroll more carefully could afford to retain all four, so don't rule out the club shopping around Garciaparra this offseason. http://msn.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/mcadam_sean/1454124.html
Could the Astros really get Nomar? How awesome would that be. I guess Drayton wouldnt let it happen though.
I would love for them to get Nomar...but assuming he makes big money like I am sure he does, Drayton likely wouldn't make a trade for him.
I really liked Garciaparra until I started reading his posts on this BBS. I was surprised to see how obsessed the guy is with poop! You'd think he was, say, 19 years old or something.
Exactly. The Red Sox have some of the most passionate/critical fans in the MLB. If they trade him, the fans will revolt against the club. Maybe they let Floyd go, or other lesser players like Trot Nixon (overrated as hell) get traded. No way in hell will the Red Sox trade the big 3 (Nomar, Manny, Pedro).
Come on, we all know Pedro will end up being a Yankee one day. Maybe not any time soon, but its bound to happen someday.
