http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-gangs01.html# I don't know if this will be moved to D&D, but I found this quote from the column particularly disturbing.
Killing another human being does affect your psyche, many times its unrepairable. War is such a sad thing.
yeah, once u kill ONE person, itll be alot easier to kill the 2nd, and the 3rd etc etc... most ppl are afraid of the fact of taking someone's life... if someone already did it, whether they're forced to or not(like war for example), they'd be much more likely to do it again
I disagree. I have many former soldiers in my family that have fought in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. Most of them have taken an enemy life. They would never kill someone else. It didn't get easier, it got harder. My Grandfather was a bazooka soldier in France. He wouldn't talk about what he did and saw for many years until he opened up to my Mom one day. He still remembers blowing away machine gun nests full of Germans and seeing the blood, guts and body parts fly 50 feet in the air. He said it was hard, but it was kill them, or be killed or have one of you buddies killed. The choice was easy. He also said if anybody saw what he saw, they would never think about taking someone's life.
I would think it'd be a hit-or-miss proposition for gangs. Maybe they'll come back with skills the gang could use. Or, maybe the military will transform the man into a well-adjusted, conforming, successful member of society who doesn't want to return to a cycle of poverty, drugs and violence.
