Gamescom is going on this week in Europe. I think it is basically replacing the Leipzig Games Convention that was usually held around this time. In other words, this is E3 for Europe. I've been too busy to really keep up with all the information, but as usual, NeoGAF users already did most of the work. It seems like the big event is Sony's conference later today. Lots of rumors (including some very far-fetched stuff), but it definitely seems like a likely appearance for a PS3 Slim announcement. Should be other good stuff too. Random games I can recall reading about include Alan Wake, Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 (thought I read both are playable). CryEngine 3 is also on display. Unfortunately, I won't be able to post about the day's events until late this evening.

I'm going to get an XBOX 360 sometime this year. Is a price drop planned on any of the higher-end units?

Sony filed patents for PS2 Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer emulation on the PS3 using the Cell and RSX, so I imagine it is in the pipeline as something they are working on.
Figure out what type of games, and which specific games, you are most interested in, then go from there.
