Denver just lost to Chicago! Atlanta is leading GS 33-23. Go Atlanta! *I kind of want Phoenix to beat down Boston but it's better for us if any WC team loses.
does it seem like boston is getting every call (or non-call) in this game or is it just me? phoenix killing themselves with 11 turnovers here in the 1st. i hate both teams so a loss either way will be cool but i'd kinda like to see boston get beat solidly for once.
Yeah, well Boston has 3 superstars so they get a large amount of calls. Charley Rosen of Foxsports had a funny segment in an article the other day in which he claimed he figured out why Boston is so good at D. Kinda humorous and kinda true, IMO. --------------- http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/7817926/Kirilenko-key-to-Utah's-success Straight Shooting Upon further investigation, there's more to the Celtics' lock-down defense than clever coaching and disciplined execution. In fact, Boston's extra edge is provided by the league's referees. As much as they may say nay, NBA refs have always adjudicated the on-court actions of superstars with a different set of guidelines than they use to oversee the play of rookies, journeymen and all players of a lesser magnitude. This is fact, not just my personal opinion. The Celtics might get away with a little more physicality on defense, thanks to star treatment from the refs. (Brian Babineau / Getty Images) So it is that the likes of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce are permitted to be extremely physical on both ends of the court. On defense, this particular trio routinely gets away with lightly slapping passers, making enough body contact with pass-receivers to upset their timing, bumping cutters and encroaching on the landing space of jump-shooters. And since the refs let these guys bend the rules, they also let the rest of the Celtics commit minor mayhem. Which is not to take anything away from the Celtics' defensive excellence. They're simply doing what they're being allowed to do. And why not? After committing an obvious charge and having the defender get whistled for a block, would LeBron James refuse to shoot the resulting free throws? Or would Manu Ginobili voluntarily nullify a driving layup on the grounds that the refs ignored an extra step that he'd taken? And when the tooters let him get away with mayhem, would Bruce Bowen call fouls on himself? And guess which team gives up the most free throws? Even though they rank 12th in most points per game allowed, the answer is the Minnesota Timberwolves. That's because Al Jefferson is their only star-caliber player and he only achieved that status this season. Again, the refs' bias in no way mitigates Boston's defensive prowess. The Celtics' brain trust is simply taking fullest advantage of the way things are in the wonderful world of the NBA.
Bibby's such a good player to have on a team like that. They needed a steady point, and they got one of the best of that in Bibby. Plus, Atlanta's a tough matchup for the Warriors. Go Hawks!
I started watching the Warriors and it was 79-56. It's already down to 84-72 after about 5 minutes. Maybe I should tune out.
This is too good to turn off now. I'm watching until the 3rd quarter ends. How do the Warriors make these runs?
This Suns/Celts game is too good. Amare and KG going at it like pitbulls. The Houston game was scrappy, this is the next level. Every time running down the court in transition someone motions to the ref about high elbows.
It's down to 94-89 after 3. I'll say it again: Watching the Warriors at home is a special treat. There is nothing like it. Unless BD's legs fall off from exhaustion, they will beat the Hawks. Back to the Celts/Suns.
Teams get sucked into their style of play and then get screwed over. They're so good at getting teams caught up in their style, then they run them out of the building. Couple that with their insane home crowd and that makes for entertaining basketball.
