I thought we are in a unique group. I think we deserve our own thread:

We are in a group that don't have enough time to waste on medieval crap. We either have a REAL life or don't succumb to peer pressure. :p

What do you all think, "NON Game of Thrones" peeps like me?

I haven't watched any TV series since like the first 2 seasons of Heroes.

Where can I download the first 2 seasons of Game of Thrones?

You are going to have to go ask in the NUMEROUS other threads that already exist. This thread is for NON-watchers and NON-readers. :p

I wasn't aware that they made a book about this series. I guess I'll wait till the whole thing ends and download all of them and spend a long weekend at home watching it start to finish.

I gave up after the first season.

Seriously - it's just a soap opera, like Days of Our Lives. The stories go on and on. Never ending. Never leaving me feelin likge there's any progression in the show at all. Characters come and go. There seems to be no one centrally focused set of characters, storylines, or developments. When I finish watching a few episodes, I feel like I've wasted my time, wasn't entertained, wasn't enlightened, and I feel completely disappointed.

    ...Like sands through the hourglass...

....so is the Game of Thrones.

Non-readers, I'll say this in defense of Game of Thrones, it's just about the best-written fantasy genre books I've ever read. I tend to be snobbish about my literature and stick to the great writers (when I have time to read, which is not so often now) because bad prose drives my bonkers. I had a hankering for some good old-school sci-fi awhile back and picked up Dune. I had to put it down again after a few chapters because the dude just can't write, nevermind how compelling a story it might be. Martin can write. He might not be Evelyn Waugh, but he can write. And that's pretty rare in genre fiction, and fantasy/sci-fi in particular. So, if you generally don't want to bother with the genre, fine, but if you're making an exception, this is probably a writer worth making an exception for.

I just came in to say that I watch the show but haven't yet read the books, though I intend to, and felt compelled to let everyone here know.

I saw the first episode and it didn't really catch my attention. Probably because I was doing dishes and not really focusing. I just need to find time to watch it, but I could also think of a lot of other things I could do instead. It's quite the conundrum.
